1. Remove distributor cap for bank in question (three flat-head bolts)

2. Remove wires from extenders, and extenders from plugs

3. Use your multimeter. Set it to test resistance (ohms). Expect resistances between 500 and 2000 ohms (approximately).

4. I tested using one lead on the screw, one lead up the wire.

5. Test the extenders, too--you're looking for negligible (approaching 0) resistance.

6. You're interested in overall resistance of the wire (e.g. suspect readings -- over 2500 ohms, or infinite resistance (broken wire).

7. You're also interested in resistance of the wire per unit length. E.g. As the wire gets longer, the resistance increases.

I did this a few weeks back, and made up a spreadsheet (attached). I found that my wire resistance varied between 600 and 1600 Ohms, depending on the wire. I was able to get very consistent readings repeatedly. I found that I was getting a range 44 to 61 ohms per inch. I'd have liked it be a tighter range, though... It's possible my length measurements were off (they were merely an approximation).

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I am putting together a new set of cables for the 308 and I am wondering how do you test them? I have little electrical knowldge but have access to a nice multimeter. What setting should I have it on and what numbers should I be seeing? All advice is greatly appreciated.
