Update- I received the car back from the F dealer. Problem...water on the brain. It seems that in the 3.2 Mondials the ECU is under the rear trunk in a low spot. Over time the trunk seals wear and moisture and water settle near the ECU (brilliant design). The contacts corrode and the ECU may go into trouble mode. Trouble mode tells the fuel system to dump fuel, but the air system is functioning fine. End result car runs excessively rich. They removed the moisture, cleaned up the connectors and added some moisture repellant. Presto! No parts, but the towing almost cost more than the 2 hours of labor to fix it. Lee |

Hallo Lee, my 308QV has the same problem. I think Your car is an US Version with catalytic converter and oxygen sensor which is similar to the system in the 84-85QVs. My car got these problem, when i removed the cat and installed a bypass pipe with oxygen sensor on it. First i thought it is an ignition problem and i found out that two ignition cables are broken. I have fixed it but there was nearly no effect. On engine warm up, when the warmup regulator is active, there is a rich fuel mixture. After the warmup the engine should run on a leaner mixture. You can see this by using an engine tester. If Your oxygene controller system doesnt work correct, You have no problem on warm up because the fuel mixture is rich. But if the mixture is too lean after the warm up procedure, Your engine cant fire up these mixture correct. On my car the oxygene sensor didnt reach the correct working temperature at 600 deegrees so that the ECU got wrong data for the engine mixture. I replaced the oxygen sensor and remounted the cat and then it seems that everything was ok. If You have new spark plugs in it, check them after some running. The plugs should be very clean, which indicates a good combustion. When the plugs are brown it shows that Your car has a bad combustion. Please check the HC emissions by an engine tester. In Your case the HC should go up on low revs after warm up. And this shows no correct combustion. Actually my car still have some problems, 800 miles after replace the plugs. I saw that two plugs are brown and i think this comes from the injectors. First check Your ignition cables, then check Your oxygene sensor and the cat. If there is no effect please check Your injectors. Please tell if You have solved the problem. Dirk |

My 1986 USA MONDIAL had a verry simalar proplem ,all though it did not suffer from loss of power ,it did idle like poo after warming up ,and it was caused from a faulty sensor on the expantion tank.Try jumping the two wires on the bottem of the expantion tank and see how she runs... |

Update...I had it towed to a local exotic car dealer (not Ferrari authorized shop). I gave them a day to work on it and called them for an update. It seems they started to do a 30k service instead of fixing my problem. I'll chalk that one up to miscommunication. After the weekend and two days I called them back to see if there was any progress. They couldn't find the problem either (I feel a little better now about my troubleshooting capabilities). It is getting good spark and fuel in both banks, but still idling rough and no power. The local shop recommended to send it to the F dealer, because they will have better diagnostic tools. It is now on its way to the dealer. Does anyone know if the Marrelli port on a 328 engine provides usable data? Lee |

Okay... I finally got around to checking out the TDC sensor connections. Unfortuantely, everything looks good. There was a loose wire going into a connector that plugs into the oil cooling radiator? (I think). I cleaned up that connection, but no dice. Any other hints, before I give up and bring it into the shop? Thanks |

Lee, The TDC sensors are on the transmission housing, there are 3 sensors each attached with approx 1.5' long x 1/8" round white/gray wire, one for each bank (2x) and one for monitoring the engine RPM. There's a 2pin connector from the sensor to the ECUs. Two of the sensors a easy (relatively) to see/get to, the last one is practically under the frame, but the connector should be accessible. I remove the left rear wheel and the inner fender shroud, and you should be able to see them. Hope it helps, Leo |

I have already checked the connectors to the ECUs and they seem to be tight. Where are the TDC sensors? Thanks Lee |

Lee, Check the connector at the ECUs, wiggle them around while car is running and see if you replicate the problem, or connectors to your TDC sensors (both banks, maybe one is loose). Leo '85 Mondial Cab |

I do get good spark at startup when cool. Then the idle will fluctuate 2-3 minutes after start, correct itself and run fine until warm. After warm, idle becomes rough and power is lost. I have checked all visible electrical connections and vacuum lines...everything seems fine. Lee |

LEE HAVE YOU PUT YOUR MONDIAL ON A MACHINE TO CHECK IF YOU ARE GETTING GOOD SPARK TO ALL YOUR CYLINDERS. |

Help...my Mondial 3.2 has an extremely rough idle and has lost power. This seemed to start 2-3 minutes after I started her up this morning. Then it ran fine and now it will not idle correctly and has no power. Seems like some sort of sensor malfunction to me, but I would appreciate some input from others before starting to troubleshoot with my limited experience. Thanks Lee |
