The light is telling you that your catalytic converter is overheating. First check the thermacoupler that connects the ECU to the cat. It is a wire connected to the cat. very close to the O2 sensor. If it's not the thermacoupler, it is most likely the cat. itself. Ferraris are known for stopped up cats. after only a few years. Especially if the car sit for a long period without being used. Now, some older 308s had a therma-reactor rather than a cat. If yours has that, check with a dealer.

I recently bought an 84 308 QV in Denver. While driving it home to Baton Rouge, I noticed the slowdown light beginning to glow after about 500 miles. I immediately stopped. I let the car cool for about 3 hours. When I restarted it the light was off so I began driving again. After 15 minutes or so it was back on. I let the car cool again and restarted. The light was on initially then faded away. It was back on again after 10 minutes of driving. I towed the car the rest of the way home on a UHaul (it was a very sad sight indeed). Could someone shed some light on this showdown light and why it may have come on after going so long with no trouble. Could the altitude change have played a part? The previous owner said the car had an "altitude compensator" whatever that is. Thanks for any advise on troubleshooting the problem.
