Well...the car dripped all night. I took a cautious inspection and the leak seems to be coming from the right-front corner area of the rightside tank just behind the passenger's compartment, about one-third the way up from the bottom. There are no hoses/fittings on top of the tanks that would cause gas to run down, at least nothing showing in the parts manual. And I can't find anything about the tanks in the workshop manual. I guess they figured there would never be a problem. I have just over a quarter-tank of gas per the gauge. To say I'm upset is an understatement. Now I must drain out around 8 gallons of gas into "something" and rip that bugger out of there and then find a shop to fix it. Are there any surprises I should know about prior to starting this job? Any "been there-done thats" are more than welcome. |

>>Fumes and such scare the dickens out of me cuz you just never know. The dumbest thing could set it off.<< Uhhhhh....yea :-0! >>I'm gonna let things sit overnight and check again.>> If it's not already, push it outside and carefully unhook the battery. And NO SMOKING..! |

I really hope it is a valve or hose. I'm gonna let things sit overnight and check again. Fumes and such scare the dickens out of me cuz you just never know. The dumbest thing could set it off. I made sure I unplugged everything in the shop, and still will have trouble sleeping tonight. Aren't the hoses and check valves on top of the tanks? If the tanks are less than half full how could fuel get up there? I wonder if my screwing around with the wiring could have started the fuel pumps for a bit....somehow? And the "imagined" pop was indeed a hose or valve on a return line? |

Could be the tank, but far more likely it's a hose or check valve causing the leak. |

If it's not one thing...it's another! Just finished up fixing a wiring/dash lights issue and now the darn thing is leaking gas from the right side tank. I did have the key on while testing electrical things out, but the car was not running. I was just finishing up the interior stuff when I smelled gas! STOP! Find out what's going on. Look under the car and the right side tank is dripping! I have less then 1/2 tank of gas in the car, and it's on an incline position with the nose of the car downwards a bit. And maybe..just maybe I think I heard a muffled pop when I depressed the gas pedal while screwing down the trim piece the goes at the pedal base. This could be my imagination, not really sure. But I pulled off the inspection plate and it appears to be running down the outer side of the right tank. It's hard to believe that the tank would leak on an expensive car with 30,000 miles on it that hasn't seen a winter. Is this a common occurance? And is it a bugger to pull down the tanks? |
