Zac - Ferrari of Orange County is easy to get to - 2 hours from Palm Springs. Speak with Al Woodard, the Service Manager. Nice guy, use my name, put the phone down for a minute or two so that you don't hear bad language, and he'll likely fix you up. 714-662-7600 - ask for Al in Service. Jim Selevan |

A bent tie rod (I think that's what you're calling a cross member) would throw your front end alignment way off by causing one of the front wheels to turn inwards. The symptoms would match what you're describing: Pulling to one side, steering wheel off center, & 'twitchy' steering. Excessive tire wear will be apparent in a few hundred miles. A possible emergency repair is to straighten the tie rod as much as possible, possibly with a large arbor or hydraulic press, or by clamping it in a big vice & using a long piece of pipe. Then finish by adjusting the tie rod end to restore alignment. If the bend isn't too severe, just a tie rod end adjustment may be sufficient. I'm on the east coast, so can't make any recommendations as to reputable service places on your itenary. |

If ever I need some help from everyone here, I could really use your expertise and experience please. I am on a road trip down from Canada with my 89 Mondial t Cab and my brother in his 348 spider, and our first stop is Las Vegas which is where we are now; Sat May 17. My problem is that on the way I hit on uneven bridge deck and bent my front cross member. (very sad). It still tracks straight although it does pull slightly to the right, is a slight bit twitchy on the road crowns, and my steering wheelis now skewed to the left (rotated slightly counter clockwise. Question that I need to know is, could someone please give me any info on the possible problem, solution and also where I might be able to have an emergency repair done while I am here in the states. My itinerary is that I will be in Palm Springs on Sunday and will be there until Wed evening. I could take the car to Los Angelas on Monday morning if I can find a shop that could fix it. I tried Ferrari of Los Gatos this morning, but the service department is closed until monday. I would appreciate any info on reputable shops, possible costs etc. I don't think any of the control arms are bent, and I'm not sure how much effect is being caused by the bent cross member. Is it possible that it is an alignment problem only?. or is that just wishful thinking? Thank you in advance for all of your help. I only have internet access until Sunday morning here, however I am sure that I can find access when I get to Palm Springs. Yours truly, Zac |
