>>The Ferrari workshop/repair manual recommends the use of 7.75 liters of Agip F1 ROTRA MP SAE 85W-90 gear oil. << The 80--85-90-120 are just the standard oil wieghts...the Important number is the GL-#. GL applies to the shear strenght of the oil itself and is the critical # when defining what is needed to protect the Ring & Pinion from premature wear. Most High Performance Trans advize/require the use of GL-5 or higher. From Porsche where a large amount of data is availible across a huge spectrum of use & mileage it was found that the use of less than GL-5 led to premature Ring & Pinion wear. I mention this because the hardening process used on the 365's was found long ago to be on the weak side and was actually changed by the time the 512's came along. Therefore imo, the strongest oil (shear strenght) should be used to minimize the possibility of premature wear. >>with the addition of 240 cubic centimeters of Molikote A. << I'm a firm believer in Molybedunum Disulfide additives and have used them across the board for many many years. There is a study availible on the net, done by the British during WWII to find the slippriest substance/best friction reducing substance known to man to keep the 100K's of military vehicles in top form. The winner was Graphite (Molybedinum Disulfide-MoS2)...and still is to my knowledge. There is a product readily availible made by "Lubr-Moly" - MoS2 Anti-Friction Treatment...I use it routinely. |

Hi........... The Ferrari workshop/repair manual recommends the use of 7.75 liters of Agip F1 ROTRA MP SAE 85W-90 gear oil. The 512 Boxer should hold 9.00 liters of the same gear oil. For the engine, the manual recommends 12 liters of Agip SINT 2000 SAE 10W-50 oil for the 365 with the addition of 240 cubic centimeters of Molikote A. I think that Molikote [Molykote - Dow Corning] is a molydenum disulfide product which I have applied to camshaft lobes during engine assembly. The 512 Boxer should hold 13 liters of this oil, with no Molikote additive. Can anyone provide the names of the modern equivalents of these products ? Why add molydenum disulfide to the motor oil for the 365 and not the 512 Boxer ?? Also curious that the volumes are different for the two models ?!! Frank........23005 www.masiarz.net/bb_resource |

same info applies to the 365BB's. although the 365's are known to have soft Ring & Pinions. http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/250478.html?1053270008 |

I would like to change the oil in my newly acquired 1976 365 Boxer. Any suggestions on what I should be using? |
