My 348 spider has a spring connected to the black bracket on the back of the filler cap.
Never had any problems with mine....

I'm collecting the car on Friday so I'll take a look at the fuel filler flap problem over the weekend.

Is there a solenoid that makes the flap "pop" open or are you refering to a solenoid that moves the metal rod holding the flap shut?

When we were pressing the button that opens the flap we could clearly see the metal rod moving to and fro and hear it "clunking", my problem is that the flap does not pop open and I have to press the side of it by hand to get it open.

That's why I thought maybe there should be some kind of spring that makes the flap pop open when the rod is released?

Justyn.

Hey Justin

Had the same problem with my fuel filler cap on the spider. The solinoid was worn so I replaced it a couple of weeks back ...really easy job. Nows works perfectly and I dont have to pop the hood each time I pull in to get petrol !

Unlocking doors....

I had a similar problem... until I realized there was a button for locking and a seperate button for unlocking. Make sure it is not user error before checking all the mechanics. :-)

I had to WD-40 my selenoid on my fuel door to get it working properly. I do believe there is a spring that works the fuel door. I will look tonight if nobody confirms before then.

Hi Justin,

You've come to the right place.

1.Fuel Cap. Open your boot/engine cover, on the left hand side and nearest to the rear of the car is a plastic pull handle. This will open the fuel cap. Once open give it a spray with WD40, this might help. failing that your solenoid has gone & will need to be replaced.

2. Have you checked that both doors are closed properly, mine pops up again if either door isnt shut. Also my drivers side stalk is at different height to passenger side.

3. My drivers seat is same, not too bad though. think you can try to treat yourself with product called leatherique, otherwise yes, you'll need it reconnolised I think.

4. I wiped my toolcase thoroughly with kitchen roll. Then cleaned with leather cleaner from halfords. Then I applied leather feeder and put near a radiator to both dry the leather & allow the feeder to soak in. Then I applied more feeder, It looked as good as new..........until a month later when I took it out of the bonnet and it was almost as bad as when I started. ha ha, dont worry about it!

Enjoy the car.

>>1) The fuel filler cover release isn't working correctly<<

A- adjustment & fine tuning, simple fix work on the plastic catch on the lid first, try adjusting the catch, if that isn't quite enough, massage opening with a small rat tail file.

>>2. The car locks ok using the key in the doorlock. However, when I was sat inside and pressed the button to lock the doors, the little black "stalks" on the doors popped down then promptly <<

A- adjustment and fine tuning, one of the linkages is mis-adjusted or one lock is out of phase, simple fix

<<3.Should I have this reconnolised or is there another process to fix this? <<

A-can you see the wear while driving? if not fuggetaboutit and get some Cool Sunglasess and DRIVE & Enjoy

>>4. The toolkit is complete but the leather case looks tatty <<

A- Hide Food and a couple old rags & some elbow grease

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, having just put a deposit down on a 348 Spyder which I will be collecting this Friday (I'm in the UK).

The car has a few "Gremlins" that I will need to fix. The bodywork is immaculate, without a single chip or piece of rust and I reckoned that I could suffer having to fix a few niggles having found a car in such good condition. I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on these problems:

1) The fuel filler cover release isn't working correctly. When you press the button to release it, it clicks and the metal rod moves back to allow the flap to open but the flap stays shut. You have to press the corner of the flap to open it and as you can't reach the button inside the car at the same time this becomes a 2 person job! Is there a spring or something that might be missing?

2. The car locks ok using the key in the doorlock. However, when I was sat inside and pressed the button to lock the doors, the little black "stalks" on the doors popped down then promptly went back up. The drivers' side "stalk" seemed to move downwards less than the passenger side although I could be mistaken here. Any ideas anyone?

3. The drivers seat (Crema Hide) was worn and a little cracked on the side where you get in (seems to be common on these cars). Should I have this reconnolised or is there another process to fix this?

4. The toolkit is complete but the leather case looks tatty - almost like an old leather suitcase that has been left somewhere damp. Is there a process to rejuvinate this too?

Thanks in advance for your time!

Kind regards,

Justyn.
