I've used Fram PH2804-1 filters for years. The red light has always come on when I start engine.

Getting ready to install a WIX.

David are you saying that no light comes on at anytime during the initial start. That is great if that happens but it seems that you will have some short red light time when starting. If this is the case this is what I will try next.

David, for what it's worth,
while the K&N does not have a stand pipe, it does have an Anti-Drainback-Valve which not only works, but holds plenty of oil in...
I have never had an oil light come on with the K&N on start up as I have with some of the other filters I have tried.

I think the stand pipe is a important feature and should be used in all inverted filter applications.

BTW, the K&N, Mobil 1 and Purolator filters for the 308/328/Mondial applications, do NOT have the standpipe, if that matters to you...

Ken -- most (if not all) oil filters have an Anti-Drainback-Valve built-in to keep the pump/input side full after shutoff (whether or not it works well is a different issue). The special "feature" that the stock 308 UFI, the Fram PH2804-1, and the Baldwin B253 all have is an internal standpipe which tries to hold a little extra oil in the output side of things too (if the ADV closes properly) -- see this thread:

http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/19896.html

for a sketch of the (inverted) oil filter internals with and without the standpipe.

For an example of a Fram ADV that is not closing properly see this thread:

http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/1679.html

The other (nice) thing you'll notice about the three filters mentioned is that they all have very robust cases (compared to the usual cheapy filter). Do a search on "Baldwin" and you should get a lot of previous discussion on 308 oil filters. I'd agree that none of this is a super critical thing, but for the same (or less cost) I see no downside to trying to use an oil filter with an internal standpipe in a inverted application -- JMO.

I can't remember what model Fram fits the 308, I think it is that, unfortunately I don't have any laying around now as I tossed the old one when the engine came out. It has a stand pipe, I haven't had any trouble with it so I will keep on using it.

I stoped using the UFI filters after all of the blow out problems they had.
I had one spew oil all over my engine compartment...
Baldwin filters are ok to use.
I have been using the K&N filter and like it ok...

My mechanic cannot get a UFI filter until next week, so I am thinking of using a Fram PH28041 - OIL SPIN-ON filter until then. Does this filter have a check valve to prevent the oil from draining out?
