I normally use QV or Joe Macari but they couldnt fit me in at the time(2 days before Christmas). I went to Foskers at Brands Hatch(ask for Jeff Fosker), very good, done in 2 hours! (still slightly concerned that its biting so high though, only done about 2000 miles since) |

Craig Mine also bites rather high, do you know if there is some auto adjustment that keeps the setting high. |

Guys, I have a 348 Spyder 1994 with nearly 40,000 miles on it. It is still running on its orginal clutch. A few months ago, I thought I needed to change it because I dropped it hard at the lights once against a TVR. Its felt like it slipped so I generally enquired about getting a new clutch. The main dealers could not believe the miles the clutch had done. Since that time I have done another 5,000 miles and the clutch is fine, did a trackday last weekend. The clutch is high but feels the same the day I bought it. I have no problem in shifting from 1st to 2nd when the engine/gearbox is cold, never had. The car is great mechanically. I really believe the car needs to be driven everyday and not left stood. People told me never to buy a Maserati (430 Bi-turbo)because of the trouble you have with them. I bought one and used it everyday and never had any problems with it. I sold it with 125,000 miles on it because the body was falling apart. I must be lucky ...... |

I have the twin disc still. It has approximately 5K on it and looks great. I had it out when I replaced the shaft seals. Billy can you explain the flywheel grease, where is it, whats it for? When the clutch was out the flywheel was right behind it (right?) where does the grease go? thanks, |

Doing a 348 clutch is not slap a disc and go! There are lots of things that need to get done like shaft seals and flywheel greese repacking and most 348s have to have knid of throwout assembly update since over the production life of the 348 there where about 4 updates here including a twin disc to single disc update which personally I don't believe in. |

How do you check the flywheel? It all seems esy and accesible to replace but how do you know that your flywhell needs changing? |

"You guys in the US are paying big money for this kind of work" Yes, I believe somehow we are paying too much and for the wrong reasons. In all honesty, replacing the clutch on one of these cars is simple enough that you can do it at home, single handed, in a single afternoon. The best thing about it, except for the alingment tool ($30.00 - $40.00), you don't need any special tools to do it. Actually, some people don't even use this, but I don't recommend it. Nevertheless, you do want to check a few things while you are there such as the flywheel, etc. Hence it might take you a little longer, but I guess you can weight that against the $3500 dollars (assuming $1000 in parts) you will be saving for the little extra time.

You guys in the US are paying big money for this kind of work. Had my clutch redone last year during engine out major/cambelts etc. Clutch assembly = 430, release bearing = 175, seal kit = 71 glad I am in the UK (except the rain) |

Justyn, These guys are who I buy parts from http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com. The cost of 159129 is about $536.00. I've never replaced one of these, since my car had a new clutch when I bought it. The price was about $4500.00 to replace the clutch and the other parts plus labor. Good luck Jim Hilton |

Does anyone know how much a clutchplate for a 348 is out of interest? Is the clutchplate the same for a 348 as a 355 and can the "challenge" clutch be fitted to a regular car instead without modification? The clutchplate in question is made by Valeo part number 159129 many thanks! Justyn. |
