Hans,

Sorry for the misunderstanding. On my car, I have a straight shot at the plug.

4.3 quarts sounds right, I added 1 gal and was just a hair low.

Andy: Where to fill is not the issue. It can all be done thru the transfer gear fill hole, BTW. What I'm trying to avoid is removing the gearbox fill plug, as you can't even see it on my car w/o removing 'stuff'.

I put a piece of rubber heater hose on the end of a funnel and run the hose down from the top of the engine compartment. Then from under the car I route the rubber hose into the side of the sump. I pour the new fluid into the funnel slowly and watch for the excess to run out of the filler hole.

Hans,

I fill mine via a vent hose.

I would do it the "right" way but for what it's worth mine took about 4 .3 qts. This is of course discounting the amount that leaked out the bad seals when filling. :-)

I have found some of the mathematical conversions in the manual haven't provided completely accurate amounts in some cases. I don't believe the imperial amounts were verified at the time the manual was written. The numbers are mathematical conversions and I would sleep better knowing I saw the oil come out the hole (and down my arm)at the back of the gear box. Cheap insurance and piece of mind.

OK, the thread title is a little ambiguous, but I was trying to keep it short.

First of all, I know the 'regular' drill - remove both fill plugs, dump oil into clutch housing hole until it starts to run out tranny fill hole.

However, the tranny fill plug is a bit of a bugger to get to. Has anybody tried simply filling via the clutch hole with the recommended amount of oil, leaving in the tranny plug?

In particular, what I *really* want to know is if the owner's manual quantites are accurate, or if a little more/less should be used. Those that have done it the correct way must have an idea of exactly how much fluid it required.
