The pinion gear that drives the ring gear is made onto the lay shaft. |

During an engine rebuild on my 79 308, I failed to notice anything unusual but noticed something today by accident. I noticed some minor gauling or pitting on some of the teeth of my (for lack of the correct ferrari term) pinion drive gear which is meshed directly with my differential ring gear. I need to know if this gear is integral with the cluster on the output shaft. The service manual doesnt show it clearly of course. If not, where will I find a cluster assy for my gearbox? I dont know if anyone repairs case hardend gears or not. The diff gear is undamaged and the gaulling is minor but destined to get worse and possibly destroy my ring gear. Im tempted to close my eyes and cross my fingers and deal with it next winter. Any suggestions? |
