Came across this nice flywheel marking figure in the 308GTB service manual:
The detail suffers at 640x480 tho. |

According to the QV/328 service manual the 328 flywheel is marked the same as the 308s. Note that the flywheels have other marks in addition to PM1-4. Such marks as PM5-8, and AA - Inlet valves Open, CS - Exhaust valves close to aid in checking valve clearancd (0.5mm). The outer cam marks are reliable, BUT the metal arrows on the cam cover backplates are NOT. It's too easy to be viewing at a slight angle and have them stil look in (or out) of alignment. The fact that all cams are timed together is a good sign, & about the most you can deduce solely using the backplate arrows. Now, pull the oil filler cap & use a dental mirror to check the front bank intake cam's timing against the regular mark. Once you have the cam on that mark, you can see if the backplate arrows indicate that the cams are all timed together. |

I was reading through the GT4 service manual and noticed the markings are not the same for the 328. Can anyone clarify which marks are which and how they correspond to PM 1/4 mark from the GT4 & 308 markings? Thanks Erik ... in process of re-clocking a jumped time 86 Mondial rear bank. Are the marks on the outside of the cams reliable? The cams were in time together but seemed to be lined up with the cam cover backplate arrows when the flywheel marks showed about ~20 degrees off. This and the belt is sloppy/loose. |
