Just a note; I went with the 45 profile for the rear to try and keep the sidewall height the same as the front. A person may want to go with the 245/50-16 to add a little rake to the car.

I too got in on the buy and went with 225/50-16 on the front and 245/45-16 on the back on the advice of Dave Handa. That is the setup he ran on his 78 308 GTS and said that it all fit fine with no rubbing. I just explored which set of alignment specs to use and feel that going with the 308 QV specs would be in order. There is quite a difference between my stock '78 specs for 14" wheels and QV specs. See '308 alignment' thread in this section. Philip and Steve were kind enough to show me the differences.
Good luck, Barney!
P.S. Get your wheels yet? How do they look?

Just spoke to Tire Rack. They said the 245's are listed as good fitament on the back and 225-50-16 on the front.

Hello. Since the 16" wheels are coming I wanted to ask a few questions about tire sizes. My 308 has 220/55-390 on all four corners. Why would I put different sizes on the front /rear (205-55-16 and 225-50-16) when the stock set up was all the same? There is no real good replacement tire (as far as size) for the 390 to match the original. 225-55-16 seems to be close although all the tires are slightly taller (probably due to the 390's =15.3" size). Any major concerns with suspension geometry when we are talking about small increases or decreases in height or width? Some info in the archives suggests the 245 is a great tire for the back and the 225 will fit on the front with no problems.
Here are some numbers. Any thoughts on this would be helpful.
TIRE SIZE ........HEIGHT ........WIDTH ........SIDE WALL
205-55-16 ........20.43 ............8.07 ...........4.44
215-55-16 ........20.65 .............8.46 ............4.65
225-55-16 ........20.87 .............8.86 ............4.87

225-50-16 ........20.43 .............8.86 ............4.43
245-50-16 ........20.82 .............9.64 ............4.82

220-55-390 ......20.12 .............8.66 ............4.76
240-55-390.......20.55 .............9.44 .............5.2
