how is the front seat belt retractor unit removed from the gt4? Mine is hidden underneath the armrest. it looks like in order to get to the retractor unit, the rear seats have to come out of the car. I hope this is not the case. Thanks in advance to all. |

I have a 75 308 GT4. The seat belt retracting mechanism is in a hole below the arm rest in the back. It is bolted in. Mine were bad and I discovered that a 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera set fit exactly. They can be had for about $100 from a salvage yard. |

Gerrit, I first thought, the best way to fix the belt is with the same bolt as the seat. But it seems not to be the appropriate fixing (not strong enough). I have not checked behind the lining yet. But I fear there are no belt fixing points in the earlier cars there. But I have seen in a german classic car magazine a picture of a later car with the belt coming out of the pocket. It would be great to see a picture of a belt fixed in the pocket. Anybody out there having a car with factory automatic belts (must be there because in some european countries the automatic belts were mandatory before 1980). |

Hi Pascal, Thanks for your offer. I live in Toronto, I assume you are not thinking of London, Ontario? :-) Anyway, for this item I will be doing the work myself.

I haven't even looked at my seat belts. I'll go by and take a look tomorrow, I always thought they were automatic, I'll let you know. |

I do not know where the two of you live, but there is a company near London which installs or refurbishes seat belts. They specialize in installing modern systems in older cars or cars which never had seatbelts. Let me know if you want me to look up their number and address. |

Hi Harald, I am also looking to do this upgrade. (76 Euro GT4) Have you checked to see if the mounting hole is actually behind the pocket lining? I will be removing mine this weekend to see. |

I want to replace the old static seat belts (the ones which have to be adjusted manually) with modern automatic belts. Yesterday I had a look into the issue. My problem is that there is no proper fixing point for the reel. It should be fixed in the pocket next to the rear seat. My GT4 is from '75 and I suppose the later models have the automatic belts. Has anyone an idea /a picture of how to do it? Or a GT4 with 6-point belts? |
