I originally installed 6" Boston Acoutic mids in the door and Image Dynamics Compression drivers under the dash. The Image Dynamics compression drivers sounded incredible but I had little to no room for my feet. I finally opted for Focal tweeters mounted on the carpeting below the dash facing the passengers. For bass I built a sealed enclosure to mount a 6.5" JBL sub in place of the passenger kick panel. It does not used up any of the existing footwell are and unless you know it's there you can't tell it's installed. The only major change I made was to remove the spare tire to fit amps and a sound processor. Two amps (Kicker 2x120 watt RMS two channel bridged for the JBL sub and a PPI 4x50 watt RMS four channel for mids and tweeters) are mounted in place of the spare tire. I figured if a can a fix a flat is good enough for the more recent Ferrari's it's good enough for me. I'm running a Kenwood MP3 head unit and a Pioneer autotuning DSP Parametric EQ with time delay to balance the whole system. The system sounds great and I get plenty of bass with the roof off on the freeway. I had six enclosures made just in case someone wanted to buy one. Sorry about the out of focus photos, it's been a long day. Rob Baylor Ultimate Pedals www.ultimatepedals.com

Sorry Mike, but that thread doesn't seem to connect. Ken, I've seen that install in a 328 in an old autosound issue, it was done in the lead singer of the band "Poison"'s car. I'm not sure about using up that kind of space. I also don't want to pack in too much extra weight, after killing myself to reduce weight elsewhere. I'm more interested in finding out whether 6.5" drivers will fit in the door, whether rear fill is important in these cars, what sort of subwoofer solutions have been used, What rear fill solutions have been used, What head units blend nicely, Where to install the CD shuttle, that sort of thing Evan |

I don't know if you have seen this or not, but you can install a subwoofer in the pass. footwell. It is hidden under the carpet and has a grill on it so the bottom of your feet don't damage it. |

Has anyone installed a sound system with rear speaker pods and subwoofer? If so, what solutions have been used? I have been toying with the idea. My antenna has been removed in favour of a dry-sump tank. I just ordered an amplified inside mount antenna from antennas.com. I would like to tackle the sound system within a couple of months. I hope some sort of simple, lightweight idea presents. Thanks for the help Evan |
