Peter, I have the same saw but I changed the fence. I put on a round rail and fence system that a friend gave me (he bought a Biesemeyer). Works tons better than original fence and rails did

Gary..I had a hard time finding one with a long enough lip to fit that would safely hold the weight of a full soda can. When I did, I rolled up my window (cup in) and I ended up wearing the entire can!

There are a number of companies that make a clip on type of cup holders that simply hang from the window lip of the door panel. Just lift it off when you're done. Check out your local auto parts store.

John, yes it is. I would like to find a table saw with a digital, button controlled fence, blade and angle adjuster if one exists! The wood I used was from a 4x8' dining table I just finished for a buddy of mine..Here is a pic!

Peter, Is that a "Craftsman Contractor" table saw I see there?

The cupholder I always use is the table at the restaurant I stop at when I'm thirsty. I get to involved when I'm driving my Boxer to drink too.

As an afterthought, I believe I have seen plastic cup holder bases that would probably fit very nicely into the holes I cut. That may look pretty slick! I'll go to Wall or KMart and see what I can dig up...Maybe there will be a Blue Light Special on them:-)

Here are the drink holders I promised to make for 308's! Except for the walnut, they are done in some very expensive South American hardwoods and angle-cut to fit extremely well. The one I placed in my car (Middle picture) is Paduk, a firery hardwood. I used tung oil for the finish. A high gloss would also look outstanding! If you would like one, you will need to finish sand and have the holes cut to suit your needs, i.e.: for soda cans, coffee mugs, etc. I drilled holes in two, but my drill press can not handle the density of this wood. You can do it at home or have a cabinet shop do it. First come, first serve. I will ship UPS in the US. Drop me an email with your address to [email protected]. From the left on my tablesaw, I have three in Cocobolo, 2 in Paduk, 2 in Walnut and two in Paofero.

Verell: Thanks for naming me part of TeamVoodoo, but my only association with them is that they were willing to make the aluminum shift knobs with the 5-speed engraving to my specs and sell them at reasonable cost. I don't get anything out of it (other than I got to keep the prototype for my own car, though I've now exchanged it for the new carbon-kevlar knob that's also been made to my specs).

Charles,
You get the patent. I should go poking around my son's store for inspiration more often.

PeterS,
I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with for the 3x8.
I'm honored that you thought of me. However, I'm actually trying to minimize marketing, & focus on mfg. I get a big bang out of making something that's seriously needed. I don't do too well on the business end of things (which is why I still don't have a web site, brochure, or business accounting set up(sigh). On the other hand, I'm having fun!

At several of our sponsors/members:
Mike Charness (MCharness) of www.TeamVoodoo.com or Dave 'Parts_Man_Soda' of www.sodacoms.com, & Nick Forza might be very interested in selling them. You might take a look at the list of sponsors & contact the most likely ones.

problem solved--have a cup holder now

found a double holder at pep boys and installed it to the side of the ash tray. Had to slightly trim the mounting strap but it works great and the passangers legs go over it--they dont notice it at all.

Better watch out with drinking while driving back east here. After the smoking nazi's and cel phone haters got their laws passed now New Jersey is looking at a bill that makes it illegal to : drink coffee , soda , eat food , shave , comb/brush hair , put on make up and so on. So no use putting in a cup holder.

This one is one my list of items to build! Maybe this weekend, I will make a proto out of Paduk, Zebrawood or Cocobolo. It will fit in the center console with holes for two cups. If I do not put a picture post by Sunday, someone bug me at [email protected]. The lack of cupholders in my 308 has driven me nuts! Is there enough interest out there for such an item? Verell, want to market them for me?....ps: I build very high-end furnishings for the home using south American hardwoods (Yes, from the rain forests..if there are any berkeley tree-huggers checking this post:-))

Hmm,
That recessed rectangle is about the only place I can think of. I've been using it to cradle my cell phone & my thighs for coffee. However, due to doing that while vigorously working the clutch & brake, I've had to clean coffee off of the leather & don't want to risk my redye job.

I'll have to make some meas'ts as I was planning to add a double-DIN head unit & a couple of guages below the A/C vents...

I usually go for a Cafe Mocha everyday. I drive away holding the cup. I can't honestly tell you how I do it: steer, shift, drink - with only two hands. But somehow it comes naturally. I'm headed out the door right now to get one.

Oh for the good old days when these things were called beer can holders.

Steven....I was just thinking about this very same thing last night, and I kept thinking that it seems the logical place to design one for would be the floor console like you described.

Peter,

Well, i go for "cost-no-object" solutions per se. Besides, not like i care about resale over personal preference. Then again others might value resale over personal preferences. Viva la difference :-)

I installed a simple cup holder from some "ricer shop" that had a bit of double stick adhesive. I stuck it just forward of the gear shift, in that tray area of the console.

On my 328, no such spot exists, so when I installed the fire extinguisher bracket in front of the passenger seat, I used the left most "fork" of the bracket to attach the cup holder.

I am a diet soft drink addict, so I have to have a cup holder... :-)

I wouldn't cut into that center console! I happened to come across a center console for sale while hunting for something else and it was $900!!

There cupholders made that fold-up flat, attached to the side of the center console and colored to match shouldn't look to bad.

Verell,

How about modding the center floor console section just in front of the stick? i mean, that rectangular section holds nothing due to such small sides so may as well cut into it for deep cup holders. Your thoughts?
