But maybe the heater cores are slightly plugged??? |

Here's why I don't think it is the heater valve...when I am driving around, that thing can get some real HOT air coming out...I have to set it at one red led, to keep from burning my leg!

Well, I'm stumped and it goes to the shop on Tuesday anyway. Back in Sept. I had a major service that included: rebuilt waterpump, new green stripe gates hoses, radiator rodded out. |

David - two thoughts. If it's engine-speed dependent, it seems to me it has to be a water circulation issue, and I can only think of three things.... either the heater (water) valve isn't opening properly/completely, the water pump isn't working right, or the engine thermostat isn't opening to allow enough flow. Ok.. make it 4 things. Collapsed heater hoses? Is your temp gauge reading ok at idle? If it is, it's not the water pump or thermostat. That would leave the hoses or heater valves only opening slightly. Either could reduce water flow at low rpm. You can check which by elimination. Take a hose off the valve on the inlet side, see if there's flow at idle. If there is, it's the valve. Good luck, Andy |

I was thinking along the lines of either the water pump has such a low efficiency that at low RPM it can't get any decent circulation going in the heater tract (but I'd doubt this if your main cooling system is working well), or you've got a serious enough obstruction somewhere in the heater tract that only at high RPM do you get a reasonable flow. Other than making sure the "hot water out" fitting ID on the engine wasn't excessively corroded and looking for the obvious kinks in the soft lines nothing specific comes to mind. Good luck with the fix... |

Steve, I confirmed tonight that it will get hot, if the car is parked, and the engine is revved to 2-2.5k rpm. At idle, the heaters get cold..... So it is engine speed related. |

I don't know the answer, but feel it may be engine speed related as you surmise. I think it must be somehow vacuum related.... |

Dave -- With the coachwork stationary and the engine at 2500~3000 RPM does the heater temperature increase? (I have a hard time seeing how the heater system function would be dependent on coachwork speed.) |

We covered this once before, but thought I would ask again. Here is the symptons. Heater will blow cold when idling at a stop. Once moving, with engine revs up, the heater blows hot. Ducts and fans seem to work fine, as it still moves a lot of air, and directs it to the right places...just is cold when stopped. Heater core valves are electrically operated, so vacuum leak doesn't appear to be the solution, or am I missing something. Have repeatedly bled system of air too....no luck. Thanks guys. |
