Gee Joe....and I thought that I was the only one. And I felt bad, at first, for not buying some $300+ tire, until I drove with the Firehawks.

Like Henryk, I have the Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP's and they are an incredible tire for the price. Lateral grip is fantastic, rain grip is also great and road noise is really down from the CompTA's I had before.

They were $622.00 delivered from the http://www.tirerack.com/

I had them balanced and mounted at Discount Tire in Olympia because they have a "touch less" tire installer and the cost was $99.00 total.

So for $721.00 I feel I got a lot of BANG for the buck.

IMO, Joe

TR: It seems that when a tire goes out of production, it is not "replaced". Rather, it is up to the individual to find a suitable replacement. Whether the Eagles are being made, or not, I don't know, nor do I care.......over $300/tire is just too high.

I will post pictures of the thread pattern, on the Firehawk, tomorrow for you.

Henry - the car has Eagle ZR50's - (i dont believe they make them anymore) is this true ?

Do you know what replaced them ?

Also if i buy the firehawks - do they have a much different profile (look) compared to the ZR 50'S?

Glen: I went to Tires Plus. I did remove the wheels, and brought them in......they installed the tires, and balanced them. I put them back on the car. They spun balanced them, and no problem.

HenryK,
That is common to the Bridgestones too, (firestones parent company) and the raised sidewalls do protect the wheel rims.

When looking for tires, last fall for my 88 TR, I couldn't see paying over $300 per tire for Eagles. Many other high performance tires didn't come in both sizes.....either one or the other, but not both.

I decided on the Firestone Firehawk SZ...... P225/50ZR16 in front, and P255/50ZR16 in the rear. They cost about $120 per tire. They are Z rated, and have an aggressive footprint. The thing I liked the most was a distinct ridge on the sidewall, that protruded out beyond the rim of the car.....very useful....especially in a TR.

I don't race my car. I drive it somewhat aggressive, at a few times. After 3,000 miles on the tires, I feel that they work very well for my needs.

I have Goodyear F1s on my Ferrari. I believe the latest designation is GS-D3. They are the ones you see in recent ads. They are SWEET.

John, what do you have on the car now? When I had my TR I had Goodyear. Don't know how many choices you have. Bridgestone is priced right. Try calling the Tire Rack for some prices. They are good to deal with. Call 1-800-981-3783

I don't have a good tire recommendation for your TR, however FWIW when I do need tires, I take my 355 to an independent shop that was originally recommended by my local P-Club chapter.

The owner/operator lets me borrow his tools and jack my car up in his garage. This way I'm able to ensure no yahoos touch my car and I'm able to ensure they take proper care with mounting and balancing.

Need you help guys - looking for new tires for my 90 Testarossa, what's the best to replace the orig ? i dont take the car on the track but i do want good performance (price not an issue)

After i find the right tires - is it better to remove the wheels and bring them to a tire shop instead of bringing the car ?

Dont know if i can trust some of these yahoos....
