That's the problem with these cars that live in nice climates or are stored in the winter, the heater valves rarely (if at all) get used. In my case, it was the cable that got seized and wouldn't pull the lever on the heater valve. After changing the original housing with bicycle-brake cable housing, a little lube and it works perfectly now. Congrats on a successful repair Charles! |

Sucess!! I started at the switch box on the consol. It is a solid state unit, and I understand that it costs from $550 to $1000. Couldn't see anything wrong. I then looked at the heater cores under the front lid. On the passenger side, when the rocker switch is pushed to increase the heat, a servo moter turns a bellcrank which turns a valve to turn flow off or on through the core. Passenger side moved, drivers side didn't. Took the servo box out. Turned the valve by hand. It turned. Took the servo box lid off. A moter, gears and little circuit board in there. took moter out and put 12 volts to it. It ran. Putbox back together. The consol switch sends power to the servo and a feedback circuit send signal back to the consol to light up the LED's to indicate the position of the valve. When I reassembled everything, it worked! I guess that it had been a long time since it had been used. Any way it is working now. |

The heater on the driver's side of my 328 is not functioning. The rotary fan switch works, and the rocker switch which directs the air flow works. But the rocker switch that increases/decreases the heat doesn't. No progressing lights, and no heat at the vents. I have heard that the switch is expensive. Any thoughts on what to check out and how to test components will be appreciated. |
