Joe;

Mine is 64873 May 86. I also worked on the RS window which would not go up. I found the nuts holding the cable to the window had become loose. I adjusted them and clamped them back down. Works as good as new, slower then my Benz, but they still work. The alternator is the next project for the winter.

Adam,

Wasn't it fun? Sounds like you had a good handle on things. Just remember; The only dumb questions are the one's that don't get asked. By the way, what chassis # is your TR? Mine is 66755. Sept '86.

Joe;

Thanks for all of your help. You were right. It was easier to remove everything and then change the filter. I also lubed the linkage cable and spring assy's. I am a little dirty for it, but it came in and out in less than 45 min including all of the clean-up work under the hood.

Adam,

You can remove the air box cover as explained by Ben and he is right, there is a small screw just under the air-breather hose fitting at the front of the cover. It is at an awkward angle but can be removed. But be careful not to drop it when you do un-screw it (magnet retrievers are wonderful!).

He also mentioned that you can remove the whole box and this is what I prefer to do.

Starting from rear of motor bay and then forward:

1. Loosen the four nuts, 2 on each side of the air intake shroud. This will allow you to lift it off of the studs that go thru the heat shield from the space frame underneath.

2. As you follow up the sides of the box, remove the 2 nuts, one on each side, holding the box to the rear of the intake manifold

3. Follow the box underneath it and you will also have on each side another nut securing the box towards the middle of the intake manifold. They are hard to see so you must feel for them.

Note: For removing all these nuts, I recommend using a 10mm socket with 1/4 drive.

4. Now like Ben said, Loosen the 2 hose clamps at the rear air intakes (air path exiting the box). Loosen the hose clamp on the hose in between there (the oil blow by), remove this hose.

5. Lift up on the intake shroud in rear to clear the studs and pull back on the whole air box assembly to remove it all in one piece. I found this to be easier when removing and cleaning my K&N filter for my TR. Plus, You can inspect underneath it for debris, and the throttle linkage can be re-lubed and an overall look.

I hope this helps, Joe Duch

Loosen the 2 hose clamps at the rear air intakes (air path exiting the box). Loosen the hose clamp on the hose in between there (the oil blow by), remove this hose. There is another screw under there, if I remember correctly. At this point you should be able to hopefully wedge the old one out and the new one in. If not let me know and I'll tell you how to remove the air box housing to work on it out of the car (tricky but not difficult).

I just got my K&N filter and removed the front screw and the two side screws...is there more? I cannot get the cover off. Is there a trick.
