Russ -- You need to read your OM. I repeat: What year is your GT4 (it seems to have the same engine family code, F106AE, as the '78-'79 B/S)? The diaphragm gizmo under your distributors is probably the diverter valve for the air injection system so it depends on the condition/state of the rest of the air injection system -- if it's working, you want the diverter stuff working properly; if it's not (which I'll guess it isn't) it really doesn't matter if you leave the diverter stuff hooked up or not -- but it is a "closed" vacuum system (to the source) so block off the vacuum source if you remove the diverter valve. (I'm not a big fan of disabling the air injection system on a 2-valve 308 and leaving the air injector nozzles in place -- if you want more info about 308 2-valve air injection send me an email that I can reply to at [email protected]) |

Thanks, Steve, that makes sense since the airbox is history...it had rusted through and the flap mechanism was disconnected and fiberglassed. I suppose that also answers the mystery of the bare hose nipple on the diaphragm gizmo under the distributors....should I blank it off? |

Russ -- That red lead is for controlling an electrovalve (i.e., a small solenoid spool valve), that, in turn, controlled placing/removing the vacuum stored in the sphere system on the vacuum actuator/flap on the airbox snout. Obviously, without an airbox you should just protect it and leave it as "not used". The OM should have a decent description and at least 1 illustration of the airbox flap stuff (if not look at the 150/78 OM). What is the model year & version of your 308GT4? (and please add it to your profile...)

That red wire you see branches off the green lead from the a/c clutch, and then goes nowhere...just lays in the valley between the heads. The green wire keeps going and hooks up to a harness on the other side. Any clues??
