Russ, The wheels are Simmons FR, silver painted centers with polished aluminum rims, 7.5 x 17 front, 8.5 x 17 rear. Tires are Pirelli P-Zero, 225/45 front, 245/45 rear. I chose the tire sizes to keep the stock diameter at the rear and bring the ride height down slightly in front. I still need to figure out a way to lower the front about 1/2 inch. I have film pictures, but no scanner and no digital camera. One of these years I'll try to join the electronic age of digital pictures, but when it comes to having to choose between spending money on the car or on electronic gadgets, the car usually wins! The appearance of the car is completely transformed by the modern wheels and tires. I was only partially satisfied with the way the car looked with the original metric wheels and tires. Now I am very satisfied with the way it looks and handles, and get lots of compliments, both from non-owners and from other Ferrari owners. Awesome!

Russ, I highly recommend switching to 16 inch or 17 inch wheels and tires. It worked out great on my '83 Mondial. You have to pay for new wheels, but then you will have a choice of many different tire sizes and models for as long as you own the car. Pay close attention to the offsets if you are trying to find new wheels. There are a lot of different wheels with the same bolt pattern, but only a few have the correct offset. Some people have put 348 wheels on later Mondials, but I don't know if it would work on the earlier cars. I ended up getting 17 inch diameter, 3-piece modular wheels so I could specify the offsets and widths I wanted. The ride, handling and appearance are fantastic! Definitely a worthwhile investment in terms of enjoyment per dollar. Have fun!

Russ, Avon did make a 225/55 390. I know because I have two of them on the front of my Mondial. My back tires are Michelin. I bought the rears from Coker as previously mentioned by djmonk. They were less than $300. ea. delivered in two days. |

I called Cooper tire, they tell me that Avon makes a 220/55/VR390, so they would be narrow for the rim. I suppose they might work in a pinch. |

Neither Avon nor Tire Rack lists a 240/55/VR390 TRX type. For some reason Mondials have fatter tires than B/S. |

Russ, There is an Avon tire now available, and supposedly less expensive than the Michelin. Not sure if it is in the size you require, but worth checking around. Try www.tirerack.com first. |

While converting to standard rims (16" stock or 17" ) certainly is the best option, I have heard that Avon makes a metric tire that works well. So, at least there is a metric choice. Be sure not to use Mondial 3.2 or t 16" wheels as the offsets changed for ABS. Not sure if the 308qv/328 16" non ABS will fit, but would be a good option to look at. Check if your offsets and the qv offsets are the same. best, rt |

If you have the Metric rims, only the Michelin TRX tires will fit. If you don't like Michelins, new/used inch sizes wheels would be in order. |

I am getting close to needing a new set of tires for my 82 Mondial 8, the original Michelins are cracked and tread is going. I am told only Michelin will fit these rims, and that's a very spendy item. Any ideas? |
