JRV- Thanks for your assistance. It looks like I will need another trip to the dealer after calling to be sure parts are ordered. I think I will take a picture of the various lines when I get home this evening and email it to them so we are all on the same page. I don't really want to wear Nomex to drive around town. Thanks again.

I maybe taking this thread off on a tangent but the mention of "stronger" banjo bolts reminded me of a question that I've had for a while. Why do they use banjo bolts in so many fuel injection locations. Why not just a port adaptor and standard hose end? When plumbing with hard lines I can see an advantage in removablity (you don't need to back the line away from the port to disconnect) but for flex lines I don't see and advantage.

Lloyd,

just got off the phone with Ferrari, the recall was 4 hoses (not 2) the lower hoses to the filters as you mention, and the upper hoses from the filter to the rail also. As we have mentioned the upgraded hoses have zinc plated steel ends so they look different from the Blue aluminum and are easy distinguishable.

should be compatable...

The disclaimer is there. Just FYI :-)

I don't doubt the quality, or the fact that the rubber ones last long. Unfortunatly, I don't have a catalog near me to quote.

Additives meaning what the fuel manufacturer may add.

JRV - I looked again at my fuel lines and the line going into the bottom of each filter is connected with a steel colored (not blue fitting) and the rest of the fittings from the top of the filters on out are the blue fittings. It appears from the recall notice where it says " Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE TWO FUEL SUPPLY LINES WITH MODIFIED FUEL SUPPLY LINES WITH A STRONGER BANJO FITTING THAT IS MORE RESISTANT TO FRACTURE" that only the two lines (left and right side) under the filters are subject to the recall. If this is the case it appears that the recall was performed and dealership is on top of their game.

Rob I used russel and aeroequip lines for over 20 years and never had a problem. I have never seen any disclaimers on the lines. The lines should be compatable with any additive in common auto stores. Those lines are widely used in all types of racing.

FYI on fuel lines: if you read the disclaimers in Earls and Aeroquip catalogs, they mention compatibility issues with fuel additives that break down rubber. They (and I, and Ferrari for some applications) recommend Teflon lines for flexible fuel lines. Teflon hose will not be affected by fuel additives and recirculated fuel as in modern fuel injection systems.

I went with all new lines and hoses on my Ferrari using the Russel and aeroquip Stainless steel braided hose. I used -6 for the fuel lines. -8 for the fuel tank to fuel pump. -6 on the valve cover breather lines. -4 for the transmission to breather tank. You can also buy the metric adapters to fit the lines properly.

>>They should have looked into the engine compartment. The blue fittings stand out so you would think they would have pointed this out to me.<<

maybe they just forgot...you can have them call me anytime and I can keep them up to date and can fill them in on Factory TSB's (technical service bullitens) and recalls...I've always considered part of my mission statement of providing service to "provide service" which includes "remembering"...;-)

JRV I researched the NHTSA site re recalls applying to the 1994 512TR and the seat belt issue and the fuel line issue showed up. My search at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallsearch.cfm revealed the following:

Make : FERRARI Model : 512TR Year : 1994
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 94V131000 Recall Date : JUL 07, 1994
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 408
Summary:
THE METAL FUEL SUPPLY LINE BANJO FITTING CAN FRACTURE IF THE NUT ATTACHING THE FUEL LINE TO THE FUEL FILTER IS OVERTORQUED. THIS CAN ALLOW FUEL TO LEAK IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.
Consequence:
FUEL LEAKS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAN RESULT IN A FIRE WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE TWO FUEL SUPPLY LINES WITH MODIFIED FUEL SUPPLY LINES WITH A STRONGER BANJO FITTING THAT IS MORE RESISTANT TO FRACTURE.
Notes:
SYSTEM: FUEL; FUEL LINES; METALLIC. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. NOTE: IF YOUR VEHICLE IS PRESENTED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND THE REMEDY IS NOT PROVIDED WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME AND FREE OF CHARGE OR THE REMEDY DOES NOT CORRECT THE DEFECT OR NONCOMPLIANCE, PLEASE CONTACT FERRARI SERVICE CENTER AT 1-201-816-2600. ALSO, CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-800-424-9393.

AAAhhh- My car is a 1994 and has the blue connectors at the end of the hoses. Does it apply to all of these blue fittings? I just drove the car 100 miles to the San Antonio Ferrari dealer for the seat belt recall and they diagnosed the AC problem and they also looked at an engine management issue. They should have looked into the engine compartment. The blue fittings stand out so you would think they would have pointed this out to me. But then again whats a little fire anyway. When you got to go, I am sure that burning alive is on the top of everyone's list. This is another reason that this site is so good. Thanks, JRV. I will call them so we can discuss this issue.

>>My 512TR uses steel braided hoses as original equipment for all of the fuel lines. <<

Hope you have the steel nuts on those hoses. The original aluminum nuts (blue) were prone to cracking causing engine fires . In fact the lines with Blue (aluminum) nuts were recalled.

If you want to go to a non-original upgrade you could also consider the steel braided Aeroquip fuel lines. My 512TR uses steel braided hoses as original equipment for all of the fuel lines. I am considering replacing a damaged AC line with one of their new steel braided AC lines. I have only heard good things about Aeroquip, but none were Ferrari applications. I am planning to go to a local pneumatic hose repair shop which is an Aeroquip dealer to see if their fittings are compatible for my AC application. Follow this link for their catalog and for fuel lines go to their racing hose: http://www.aeroquip.com/media/A-SPPE-MC0001-E.pdf I imagine you would have to have them fabricated by a local Aeroquip dealer unless you can use a stock length and would have to make sure they carry the correct connections for your application. Here is a link to their dealer locator search location: https://fluidpower.eaton.com/CO_FindUs.asp

If anyone has any experience with the Aeroquip AC lines, I would love their input.

I just bought new 7mm fuel hose at my local foreign parts place at $1.10 a foot. Got 10 feet to do all of the fuel stuff from the FP to the carbs. Also don't forget to get the FI type clamps.Don't know the vacuum hose size yet.

Please,
I'm replacing the fuel/vacuum/smog cloth braided hoses in my 79 308 GTB. Can anyone tell me what size (MM) they are (all)? Ferrari can't seem to help my with this. Also where can you get the stuff? I've tried everywhere! Thanks, Chris.
