I found someone to put in all new springs and resurface the clutch discs. Anyone ever done this, or see any problems with it?

BTW the clutch is from AP Racing England #CP3318 2GRY.

Was this the standard clutch on 348's or does Ferrari make their own

thanks,

Does anyone have a center PP plate left over from when they converted their 348 from dual plate to single?

Or can you replace the spring? Looks like they are riveted on.

Thanks,

Bearing side disc: .225"
Fw side disc .235"

Could this accelerated wear be due to this:

broken spring on center pp:

And uneven tension on remaing pressure spring on center pp

Didn't see this thread, see specs in other thread.

You need to measure with a micrometer. If a new disc is 7.25mm thick unloaded, that's 0.29". If the wear limit is 0.8mm, then the minimum unloaded thickness is 6.45mm, or 0.26". If your disc is actually 1/4" thick, that's 0.25", and it's worn past the limit. Time for new discs. Sorry. If that was just a rough estimate of the thickness, there may be some life remaining in it.

Jrv,

Thanks.

I see you are in Houston. Do you know Franco, he is a master mechanic in San Antonio. Works on some very cool cars as well.

PP looks a little scorched, no big deal thogh, just clean it with 400 sand paper by hand, and clean all the metal well before assembly with brake clean and wipe with clean, non-oily rag...you'll have to take the specs out of the book, but generally when they are very close to the rivets, that's it. 'Most' (not all) will slip 'alot' before they quite get to the rivets. From the pic that disc looks relitivly new.

What is the min. thickness for clutch plates on a 348 with the dual clutch set up. mine are currently at 1/4"? There is discoloration from heat on the metal wear surfaces, how much is normal? I see no cracking.

I have currently removed my clutch to remove the flywheel to fix a hot start problem on the 348. Thanks to Jeff and JRV for all of your help.
