Ken,
There is a great site where you can learn more about mechanical FI which is what your car has. Go to www.auto-solve.com/mech_inj.htm
Based on what I have read there, you may have a problem with your auxilary air valve which sets the cold idle. When cold, your idle should be around 1500 to 1600 for a few minutes, until the auxilary air valve heats up and closes. Then your car will settle down to the 1000 rpm warm idle. The symptons you describe sound like the engine struggling/hesitating while cold. That is the reason for a cold idle/aux air valve. Best to have this checked by a Bosch FI technician though, as I am NOT a mechanic. But have had just your symptons on two other cars, and when I removed the aux air valve, I found it was stuck closed. Even put it in the freezer to see if it would return to open, and would not. Bought and installed a new one, and worked fine again. This was on a VW and Nissan with the same type FI as on the 308/328 series.

My 308QV on start up when cold is acting funny. For the first 30-60 seconds the car idles at 1,000 rpm and everything is fine. Then after 30-60 seconds the idle goes down to 500 rpm and sounds as if the engine is running on one bank. The exhaust note also sounds funny during this time. Then after 10 minutes the idle returns to normal as does the exhaust note. What is causing this problem.
