Frank: The clutch kit from Rutlands ws $1750, and did not include everything that the dealer had. It must have been a while since you ordered from them!!!!!!

After calling EVERYONE that was recommended to me, plus others, there is NO ONE that will re-line a used set of discs. Several have stated that relining old discs is not worth doing, due to possible warpage, or sprung springs......I would agree. Those that supposedly do, will perform an upgrade, including relining, but this is on a NEW clutch set.

Those that I called for a price, on a new set, either didn't respond, or the price was the same as the dealer. Those who offered it for less, included less with the kit.

I have decided to go with the 3 disc carbon/carbon clutch , with new flywheel from Tilton.

My conclusions: Either buy a new set, from the dealer; buy a new carbon/carbon clutch from Tilton; or, have a performance upgrade done, but then this is done on a new set, and is purely for racing purposes only.

And, the Boxer clutch is shimmed and sometimes all that is needed is to remove a few shims to get another 5k miles out of the clutch.

You can get a clutch kit from TRutlands for less than 1/2 that amount.

Hi.........

Don't understand why the clutch discs can not be resurfaced with "space-age" material. From your pictures in the other thread, it would appear that the individual friction "plates" are riveted on to the disk. Of course, it is essential that the servicemen know the original dimensions/thicknesses of all of the parts and the diaphragm pressure to ensure proper operation in the final test.

I have heard that some clutch materials can produce much noise at the "slip point" or the point of initial contact between surfaces. Make sure that any new, non-Ferrari material is not prone to noise generation. Nothing worse than a noisy clutch and noisy brakes !!

Good luck !

Frank.........

Send the discs to a competition clutch company specializing in custom clutch systems for race applications. They should be able to resurface your discs and replace worn springs etc. Resultant discs will probably be superior to the OEM parts and considerably less money.
It has been 3 years since I looked at my TR clutch discs but I do not recall any features that were markedly different than any other discs. Seems odd they cannot be resurfaced.

I just got off the phone with a man from a company that re-lines clutch discs. He knows Ferraris, since he has been asked this before....the Ferrari dealer is down the street, in Ontario.

He states that Ferrari discs are "special", like no other car made. Bottom line is that they cannot be relined.

I thought this would be interesting to other members.

These are measured, calculated, balanced complete clutch pacs.

Doing your own you might be able to experiment and come up with a solution that works for you.

However for the average owner the risk probably wouldn't be comfortable.

I just got off the phone with the dealer. A new clutch package is $2135. This includes the 2 clutch plates, intermediate ring, spacer ring, spacers, and pressure plate. No throw-out bearing or flywheel. One cannot buy the clutch discs seperately.

If the metal surfaces are smooth, then why not just get 2 new clutch discs? But where?

Just curious.
