I may have a similar issue on my 3.2 mondial, I cleaned everything but think I should replace my neg battery cable, anyone know what gauge these are, I assume any comparable bat cable will work?

IT'S ALIVE!

Thank you very much, guys. I apologize, JRV, for doubting your opinion. Your advise was right on, as usual.

Matt, take JRV's advice -- it totally sounds like a corroded connection. Given that it was disconnected for the winter, you should throughly clean both the terminals on the battery and also the inside of the battery wire connectors. Scrape them until they are SHINY.

Let us know if that fixes it....

vty,

>>But it seems like there's no juice at all, not even a dim dash light. Thanks.<<

That's the beauty of a mystery...the mystery.

If everything was obvious, life would get boring.

Every good easter egg hunt has to start somewhere Matthew, this easter egg hunt should probably start at the battery cable connectors. If it turns out that's not it, at least one possibility has been eleminated.

Matthew,

yes a bad/dirty/loose connection at the battery will allow a little elec thru, but not enough for a huge drain like a starter.

Thanks, JRV. I can double check them, although they seem to be in fine condition. Would that really explain the on / off condition I'm describing?

Remove, Clean, Retighten Both Battery Terminals at the Battery.

Then see what happens.

I tried to help my father pull his European spec 308 GTSi out of long term storage today.

We hooked up a fresh battery, got strong lights on the dash. When my dad turned the key to start, the starter motor ran for the briefest moment, and then all electricity shut off. It was as if a fuse blew or a circuit breaker was tripped.

And now there's no electricity to anything except the clock, just like it would be with no key in the ignition. We tried all sorts of things, and couldn't get any other response.

Did we short something, like a connection to the ignition switch? I couldn't find a master fuse, or anything like it. (The original battery switch as shown in the manual is no longer there, if it ever was.)

I'd love to be able to fix this myself. Is there something obvious to look for? Or is it time to flatbed it to a mechanic?

Thanks in advance!
