Hi, i did locate the problem, after i had removed the a/c unit to tighten the alternator belt. I soursed the problem to one of the rear exsaust gaskits which are made of a metal type which was vibrating and clearly the noise of it was amplified throughout the rear of the engine. Sorted. Thanks for your responses.C |

Chaz: My check valve went out in my 328 and it made an exhaust leak sound. The valve rusted through. They appear to be the same as a Chevy (I've heard this before too). See attached diagram from a '69 Chevy Service manual. The way to tell if this is the source of the noise is to start it and while it is cold, run your hand over the vale and if you feel gas leaking that'd it! The Fwd one is very hard to change. Good Luck, Mark |

I don't know if the 328 has them, but I just had a similar problem on my 308QV ... one of the gulp valves for the air injection system cracked. Made the car sound kind of like a sick are cooled VW. The good news is you can buy them at the Chebby dealer for something like $16.00 each (there are two). HTH, Jeff |

I agree--it does sound like a loose belt. I had the same thing with my '85 308--it was a loosened alternator belt. Good luck! |

The first thing I would check would be belts, the alternator, water pump and a/c. I only had my 328 a couple of weeks and had a noise at about 2000 RPM, turned out to be a loose alternator belt. |

Hi, my 28 was running perfectly then there was a different noise coming from the engin bay. At tick over there is a kind of chirping noise coming fron what seems the back of the engine near the bulk head towards the distributor corner. Its a noise that disapears when the engine reves raise above 2000 rpm while at stand still in my gararge.I am wondering if it could be anything to do with an egsaust leak or any thing loose back there, the sound to me does not seem macanical like from the heads, it just like a dry chirping squeaking type of noise. could it be comming from the in side of the rocker cover? i dont know, has any one else had this problem? can you sugest any thing to me,i am planning to solve the problem tomorrow all day if i have to.PLEASE HELP ME GUYS. Thanks C |
