Mark,
Sorry I didn't notice your thread sooner. I had the SAME symptoms with my 348.
I spent over 8 hours removing everything from the AC unit preparing for a fan swap, (this is quite a big and frustrating job), then I recalled a lesson I learned on my QV. CHECK ALL THE PLUGS AND CONNECTIONS FOR CORROSION! The main plug that plugs into the fan is red two prong that is located below the trunk cover near the bottom of the fan unit. I simply cleaned it and now the airflow will blast you out of the car. This is easy and well worth a try. I simply cleaned it with electrical contact cleaner that you can buy at any parts store and scrubbed the plug with a dremel soft hair brush. Mine turned out to be an easy fix. Let us know what happens...........

Mine works fine in Texas-like heat, lots of air, lots of BTUs leave the cabin.

>>maybe a pipes fallen off somewhere? maybe a stripdown of the surrounding area?<<

Feel around under the dash for escaping air , if you feel a breeze where you shouldn't get a light and have a look up under at the duct work.

Recirc flap is working, infact it seems slightly more effective when closed, nothing obvious in the fan looking from the outside (when the the recirc flap is open!) maybe a pipes fallen off somewhere? maybe a stripdown of the surrounding area?

Doesn't sound normal...it should blow plenty of 'cold' air. Have you checked the recirc flap and that nothing has been sucked into the fan itself?

Car is a late '96 355GTS. Air movement in the cabin seems to be very poor, whilst when needed the air gets hot enough and again when needed the aircon seems to work OK, the fan doesn't seem to have the power to pump air into the cabin at anything other than a mild breeze eg, it won't reach your face from the face level vents even when only these are selected and on max fan.

The fan makes plenty of air movement noise and it sounds like it ought to be putting out a lot more

I'm wondering if this is as it should be??
