Paul Also to be safe use some tippex or other paint to mark round the washers onto the hinges, this will help to ensure it goes back in the same place. Other recommendations, it is extremely heavy!!!!, before you start undoing anything put loads of masking tape on the body work and front edge of the deck at the top particularly where it joins the roof line on the buttresses. Then get two strong friends to help hold it whilst you're undoing it and lift it clean away. Anything less and you'll remove paint!!! |

For the pins you can use drill bits with masking tape on the sharp ends. If I remember correctly, I used 3/16" drill bits, but at worst a couple of trys will get you the right size. BTW, Don't use screws, the threads will cut thru the paint on the inside of the holes. Add normal water exposure & in a few months you've got the R-word.. |

I couldn't even get the freakin' airbox off my ex-'78 GTS without removing the engine decklid (so virtually every project started with "remove decklid" )! The small holes should be a small hole in the hinge arm and a small hole in the decklid -- you provide the pin for alignment (which is removed after the bolts are tightened). |

I have a 328 and I have started a cam belt change, access is prety tight of course, especialy to get to the front cam cover so I have been recommended by a couple of people to remove the rear engine deck to improve the access. My concern is how will it re-align to get a good fit when I re-install it ? I see it has three bolts each side but they seem to be in slotted holes. I also see two small holes each side but no locating pins ??? What's the best way to make sure I can get this thing back on with a good fit and closing correctly ? it already takes a good slam to close ! |
