I was quoted 12.63 each from T Rutland's. Sounds astronomical. I hope someone has them cheaper....

Dr. I,

That's strictly an F part. Two important points regarding them. First - be sure to smear silicone grease before inserting..... Second - be sure to note there is a small vent hole. Be SURE those are on the "uphill" side when installing, and also insure they are open. If they're not open, any moisture down in the tube will turn to steam which can/will blow them right out.. along with the extender.

Regards,
Andy

Philip: That's what this thread is all about! Replacing the extender 'booties' to keep water, etc. out.

And, Craig, for MOST of these cars, the extenders are just that - simple extenders. No internal resistance for most. It wasn't until later that resistor extenders were introduced. I think it was Dave Handa who figured this out. His 308 had no resistance, 328 does (about 2K ohms, if I recall). My 308 has no resistance.

At the risk of hi-jacking this thread, does anyone else experience the issue I do with the extenders/protectors. Every time the car is washed, unless I am there to stand over the cleaning staff/do it myself, the plug wells get some water in them. Causes a lot of mis-firing and general poping and banging until blown out with compressed air. Seems to be mostly cylinders 6, 7 and maybe 8 that are the culprits. Occasionally 2 and/or 3 too. As I don't currently have a compressor, the becomes a royal PITA and, while it doesn't persist for long, the arching to the extender can't do it good. Anyone have any good solutions?

Russ, These arent just plug extendars. Thay have a certain resistance required to match the cavis plug wires. Have you ever noticed how 8 cyl. cars run bad without factory wires? Stay with factory Ign. parts...You will be glad you did.

Any engine that uses these boots would also use plug extenders (i think). I have not been able to find generic extenders, so I think you are stuck with OEM parts for both. I tried Fiat, Lancia, the most likely candidates.

Yup, I am another devotee of Ferrari UK, I bought my steering rack from them, and probably saved close to 50% compared to FNA!

Mark was very helpful, and delivery was prompt.

I agree with Matt. Ferrari of UK is THE place to get most parts.

Some are pricey, but they have just about everything you need.

Also good guys to deal with. (I'm not a shill for F of UK. I promise)

And as Matt said you get parts quick.

From Ferrari of UK (sponser) they have them for 3 or 4 dollars.

I just got a replacememt targa seal from them for $100. I got it the next day from London.

Check them first. they are cheap(er) then most aftermarket and the are actual Ferrari parts. Plus, next day shipping from the UK at no additional charge is nice.

I just replaced mine this winter on my '78 GTS. Ordered from Sodacom's at 7.70 EACH!. Maybe a better deal at T.Rutlands. Thay work with the 8 mm wires I installed too.

Not sure, and never bothered to look, they were not terribly expensive to purchase from T.Rutlands when I needed a set a couple years ago. Perhaps four or so each.

Had a terrible time with water getting into the plug holes, and that fixed it right up.

my 79 308 spark plug rubber protectors that keep water from seeping into the spark plug wells are brittle and need replacement. Has anyone replaced theirs? Can you get them at the local auto parts store...or are they Ferrari unobtanium parts only?
