I just brought my 87TR for it's emissions test yesterday and it failed. The HC's and CO's where why out I was told, also the car had a miss is one of the cylinders. The shop I brought it to happened to be gas specialist with a gas analyzer. They changed my spark plugs and readjusted the fuel mixture to Ferrari specs. The car passed the test with flying colors. Let me tell you one thing I used to think my car ran fine but after what they did to my car, there is nothing like a well tuned Ferrari. I plan on having this done to my car every year.

Henry, you shouldnt have to worry about the air pump, it has an electric clutch that only operates it during warm up. also dont forget to plug the hole in the fuel distributor after each adjustment (vacuum leak)

"Born again tuner"........that is cute, JRV. LOL

Thanks for the advice. Now I will have to read up on manifold vacuum, etc.

I figure, that when I retire, I'll move to Texas and work for you!!!!!!haha

I have always like mechanical things.....rebuilt a 246 engine once, rebuilt 6 carbs on a previous Daytona, and all sorts of things on my previous Ferraris.

The two I have now I plan to keep......to move up would be an F-40, and that is just too high for me......now.

BTW: The 2 nuts I removed in the gear transfer housing of my Boxer?....well, the dealer stated about $200 for both...WOW.....I plan on machining my own. Even made my own test pipes for the TR....look great.

Thanks again

Henryk,

are you becoming a "Tuning Convert" ?

or a "Born Again Tuner" ?

;-)

when you have a problem after this can I ask you what's the CO & HC readings?

;-)

>>My concern is the air pump.....should it be disconnected?....and if so then how? <<

Take the belt off.

>>The goal, I assume will be to get a CO reading of less than 1%.....correct? <<

The specs pre-cat (at the test ports) are on the Tune-Up Sticker in the engine compt.

Off the top of my head 0.75-0.95 CO at idle 1050, which should place HC's around 100-150ppm. (lower HC is good, higher than 200 not so good).

You'll also need to check and/or set intake manifold vacum side to side.

I shall be getting my new gas analyzer any day now, and will be testing my 88 TR (US model).

I have installed test pipes, and am wondering if the fuel management system has leaned out the mixture.......should be OK by some sources!

My concern is the air pump.....should it be disconnected?....and if so then how?

The goal, I assume will be to get a CO reading of less than 1%.....correct?

Thanks
