Ralph, Don't forget that when you lower the ride height by shortening the springs, you are also changing the suspension geometry. Bump travel will be less. Camber will be different which may affect tire wear and handling. Adjustable spring perches, like Steve indicated, allow you to easily return to the factory ride height if necessary (especially for alignment purposes) and allow you to play with the handling characteristics. Ralph -- eventually (when I can take 3~5 weeks without my TR) I'm going to have Truechoice Motorsports: http://www.truechoice.com modify (and rebuild) my front Konis to have adjustable lower spring perches -- cost about $200 each (but I'm not interested in going as low as you are). You might talk to them about some shorter/stiffer springs (BTW there's a lot of data on the stock springs in the TR WSM). Good luck with the project -- let us know how it turns out. |

Hello all, I have just become the proud owner of a Black '91 TR and am anxious to do some upgrades. I did try to research this topic before posting... I have just upgraded to 18" wheels and would like to reduce the "gap" between fender and tire by 1 to 1.5". I realize the front spoiler clearance becomes a concern, however I want to procede regardless. I prefer to change the springs only (vs. complete coilovers) is there a manufacturer/ supplier you could recommend and any idea on competive prices? Thank you, in advance.
