Dom: Just received email from them - I'm guessing that they have to make it, as it's not being shipped 'off the shelf', but has to "come from the warehouse direct". 2 weeks!!

One thing I've thought of is to take the dashmat apart, and only use the "pod" cover rather than the whole thing. I may still do that. If you did that, of course it wouldn't matter if it was RHD or LHD.

Before I bought the dashmat, I made a pod cover out of black terrycloth, sewed heavy wires along the sides which hooked at the front (shaped like a shepherd's crook) to wrap around the front edge of the pod to hold it in place. Worked great, but I'm not that good with a sewing machine so it needed to be done by someone who could sew a straight line.

jm2 - fantastic reply! Never knew about veiling glare before! Thought I'd take Mike's advice and buy a Dashmat but, of course, they don't supply RHD(UK). The anti-glare spray sounds good but would be difficult to apply due to the close proximity of the glass so I think Barry & Clyde's black felt & velcro may be the only way to go.

Peter this is a function of the windshield angle, and it's referred to as veiling glare.Whenever the windshield angle is greater than 64degrees this usually becomes a problem.Reducing the gloss level on the upper portion of the instrument panel will help to reduce the problem, but will probably never completely eliminate it.Its just the physics of how light is refracted.Good luck !

Hey Hans,

If it does fit, can you take a photo and send it to me (or post).

Thanks,
Dom

Just received an email from the Dashmat people finally - after 1 1/2 weeks). They claim that the 1121 fits the GT4. I'll order one and see.

Thanks, Barney. Now I know what part # 788 fits! If I can just find out what part # 1121 fits....... It might be for a GT4, but they can't/won't tell me.

I've emailed dashmat a couple of times this week, but have not gotten a response.

I agree with Barry.

I used $1.00 Black felt from Rag Shop cut to fit over the instrument pod. 3 or 4 small velcro dots on the pod corners to hold the felt down. 100% glare off the pod....gone! And the felt blends right in to the pod. Velcro & Felt easily removed for whatever reason.

Polarized glasses still showed glare and I thought a full Dash cover was too much.

Mike: No. For any model year 1975 to 1985 that you put in, the model selection reads: "308, B, GTS, 328". For ANY year. That in itself makes no sense, but they show the 1121 as fitting ALL 1975's (including the 1975 328!!!!!), and the 788 as fitting ALL 1976 - 1985. Note that they don't make anything to fit any 1986, but they do make them for 1987. ?

Their emails say that "The part number fits a 308GT4." But they don't say WHICH part number. And, as mentioned, "They are all the same." So, why two part numbers?

They finally requested photos, but after sending them, I haven't heard back.

You mean you fill in the blanks for your type and year of car, and sometimes via the website you come up with one number and sometimes you come up with another?

I'm having TERRIBLE arguments with Dashmat over part numbers. We're talking maybe 15 emails to their customer support. There are significant inconsistencies in their web site.

You can help: There are two part numbers - 1121 00 XX, and 788 00 XX; where XX is the color. Which one are you guys using, and for what car? I'm guessing that 788 is for a GTB/S, and the 1121 is for a GT4. But Dashmat doesn't really know. They say that they're all the same, and they can't answer as to why they have two part numbers.

Polarized sunglasses make a world of difference. But I wouldn't recommend them at night ;-)

What I did with mine was to pop out the three round vents, and put them back on THROUGH the dashmat. They'll snap back in and hold it on quite nicely.

By the way, only try that with the three rounds rotating vents. If you try to pop out the longer almost rectangular vents, they'll likely break because there are clips on the back that you can't get to without removing the dash. The round vents, on the other hand, are designed for easy removal (and replacement) from on top.

Have a DashMat (poly) in mine as well. I chose not to install it with the velcro tab fasteners -- but simply laid it on the dash instead. I've driven around with the targa top off and the dash cover stayed put. This way makes it easier for me to remove it for routine cleaning of the dash.

www.dashmat.com $40 for 308 dashmat/cover

They have lots of colors to choose from, and have patterns for most Ferraris.

Peter,

Yup.. that's an annoying problem. Go to any trim or upholstery shop and get some dark headliner material... it conforms to any shape, and as Steve said, it saves the dash material.

Andy

Peter,

Try putting some black felt material over the instrument pod during sun glare conditions.

Peter,

Welcome to f-chat.

In the film industry they use an anti glare spray to avoid unwanted reflections. I came across this site http://www.visionclearusa.com as it was the closest thing I could find. I would do a search on the 3M website to see if they do anything similar.

I have the misfortune to drive east to work in the mornings and, naturally, west home in the evening. I find the screen glare from the black instrument pod of my 308GTS dangerously distracting in bright sunshine. Does anyone have a solution to this? I can't find any matt vinyl paint - only gloss, and I don't know of any matt substance that could be painted on that wouldn't damage the vinyl. I have cleaned the pod but it didn't help. Surely, someone must have solved this problem...
