Andy, You have good point there. I don't know the price of the bearings ( in the US ) but I got the OEM bearings from Europe for $45 each. |

I paid $230 for OEM belts and tensioners 5 years ago from Partsource and thought that was a good deal. If you can buy them today for $225 I'd jump at it. Considering the expensive part of the job is the labor and the belts are the weak point, how much can be saved by recycling the tensioners with bearings only? |

Last time I did the belts on my 308, I purchased a set of tensioner bearings from Nick Scianna. They're lighter (aluminum housing), and they have snap rings that you can remove so you can easily press in and out the next set of bearings. As I recall, I paid a bit more for them then I would have for a set of OEM ones, but next time I just have to buy the bearings for a few bucks each. -Matt '85 Euro 308 |

Verell, From a previous discussion on this issue ( type of bearing ) mine was the type with the small lip over the bearing. It was very easy to replace. It didn't take more than 20 minute to do both. I just trimmed with the dremell the lip on one side and pressed the bearing out. I didn't use any locktite. I used a 20 ton press and had found a lot of resistance removing & pressing the new bearing.

Call George Evans directly. They often go for more on Ebay than he sells them directly for. |

Try contacting user TommyA. I believe he picked up some tensioner bearings while in Europe recently at a very favorable price. The belts are pretty cheap $13-$15 each from just about anyone. If you search the archives, I posted the Gates part # for the belt. It's an industrial belt, not an automotive beltl. George Evans <[email protected]> often has belt/tensionere sets on eBAY, & he stocks them as well. His eBay adds all have 'L@@K' in the title... |

If the tensioners included bearings, $225 seems like a good buy. |

Anyone know of a good (cheap) source? Any good aftermarket replacements with better performance than the OEM parts? Thanks |
