in my experience all the cars i had with webers always run better with the stacks open, on my boxer i've been running it for the last 12 years with no air box. every time i would try to put that air box seems to make my mixture lean and slower on the bottom end.as for engine heat i believe hot air just exits thru the vents.

And this is exactly when these (shown) arrangements will be consuming pre-heated air. Engine is hot, headers are roasting hot, basically everything the air passes through on its way to the carbs is HOT. You might be surprised at the air flow at speed is from the underside of the car through the engine compartment and up through the louvers. The only way to get cold outside air to the carbs is to duct it in there (more or less) like the original system. These (shown) systems sound great, and look nice, but the fail in the go department--only by a little, but fail nonetheless.

One more thing: the original air box might have even acted as a helholtz resonator and removing it could result in a slight loss of low-end torque.

I didn't notice any difference post in engine temp...and performance seemed better (certainly sounded better). The engine compartment feels hot when the car is stationary, but when it is moving there is a lot of air coming up from under as there is a partial vacuum above the lid that sucks are through the louvers, and from the now open side scoop. When you are in full stride is when you need clean air, when you are dawdling it doesn't matter. Other pluses: the filters are reusable, and you can fiddle with your carbs without removing anything. I also enjoy the view down the valley. The engine looked so prosaic with the factory air box.

What do you do to keep the superheated air under the hood from the carbs? Mine was set up this way when I got it and I put it back to stock just for the cold air.

Steve, Jay, I found the right one. It's the 56-1120. It's 3 1/4" tall. It goes under and over the factory stacks.

I believe the Red car has the new style 56-1120, 3 1/4 inches tall, And the White car has the old style (no logo) of 56-110 1 1/4 inches tall.
