Hi guys,

I have a set of 40DCNFs marked 58-150-6l that are jetted/emulsion tubed, etc for P6 cams and Daytona pistons (which I also have). There is a guy flying in Monday to look at buying my entire ('66 Euro dry sump) engine/tranny, and if he doesn't buy it, I'd sell the parts. I just checked, the throttle shafts are tight. The car everything is out of only had about 10-11k miles when I folded the front end.

Best regards,
Andy Illes

Arie,

Good luck in trying to find a new set of carbs for you2 79 308. Your car was originally fitted with 40DCNF72/73/74/75 carbs. I've just spent about 3-months trying to locate a set for my 78 GTS and have only been partially successful. I managed to obtain 3-new ones from Dennis McCann but have not yet found the fourth one. Indeed, the 3 I have are for an earlier US version, 40DCNF45/46/48. I'm still looking for a new /47, or something that can be made into one. By the way, if anyone can find a new 40DCNF47, or even a 45/46/48, please email me.

The important thing is that all carb bodies on a car be from the same family. The various carbs sets differ in the diameter and placement of the progression holes. Everything else can be swapped out. This ensures a uniform set of progression holes and pump bleed valves. These details would be difficult to change within the precision desired.

You may want to try Bill at GT Car Parts. About 2-years ago, Bill told me he was able to locate a set of 40DCNF72/73/74/75 carbs from a source he didn't disclose. Price was $2500 for the set. It was too much for me at the time and I bought a used set from another. This set of four was from an earlier US spec GTB/GTS and was identified as 40DCNF45/46/47/48.

Another possibility for you is the 40DCNF35/36/37/38 family, from the very early US spec GT-4s. I have a new example sent by mistake from Ferrari UK. The tag taped to the outside of the shrink wrap (not sealed at delivery) identified the carb by Ferrari part number 107799 and also as a VER/US CARBURATOR 40DCNF45. This carb could be made into the needed 40DCNF47 to complete my set, by the substitution of a single throttle shaft lever. The problem is, the number stamped into the carb base, between the mixture adjustment needles was, 40DCNF36. Not the correct family.

A number of places can provide the generic 40DCNF18. This animal is different from the Ferrari versions in that it uses a 4-bolt top cover. The Ferrari versions use a 5-bolt cover with bolt-on velocity stacks, not cast on, like the 40DCNF18's. I think you may have to modify your air box if you decide to fit 40DCNF18's.

The reason to go with new carbs if possible is because you start with a known quantity. Things like the mixture valves and more importantly their seats, have not been abused. There is not likely to be corrosion in the internal passages or at the throttle plate-to-bore interface, and all the lead plugs are likely leak free.

Wow,

I am impressed at the amount of money you have just wanting to buy an extra set of DCNF webers for ... spare.

Chances are you are going to have to rebuild the new ones or at least assemble them. No advantage really.

Nothing really.
They have been at the shop waiting to be rebuilt for months.
Maybe I can just buy replacements till I get the original ones rebuilt.
Thanks..

Why do you think you need a new one?

There are no moving parts (for the most part) and usually everything can be fixed with a good rebuild.
