Hi Steve. Yea that's always an option. The problem is that the spring is very specific. By that I mean is has a slightly larger diameter coil that fits into the bottom of the cap and a very tight, specific wind that secures the brush. I did call a couple of distributor places but they didn't have anything even close. I would have been nice to just order a bunch of springs. Fortunately, David was kind enough to come to my rescue. |

I must be missing something here because I would measure up the spring ( ID , OD , wire dia. length , number of coils ) and go to a hardware store or look on the net foe spring mfg's and order a bunch of them for a few bucks. Even going to a dist. shop should get you a replacement. Just my 2c |

Brian, that's very interesting. Rutland's sent me 140567 and the description read 5mmX10mm. When I measured it, it was actually 6mmX10mm. The old one for the BB512 that I took out and measured was 5mmX15mm. Drew |

There were two part numbers for the dist. cap carbons as there were two different sizes. I think one size was 5x10mm (FPN 140567)for the V8 and V12 cars that use two caps. The V12 cars with a single distributor used a smaller/longer carbon like 3x20mm. Can't remember the number for that one though. HTH, Brian |

Drew, Likely I've got a few kicking around...as it's the same cap that is used on my 365BB. Name your price, and it's yours. Regards, David |

Yea, you're the second person to tell me that. I think my best hope is to find a parts supplier who has some cracked caps sitting around in back and can salvage the brush. Thanks very much for looking though. Drew |

Drew - I can see why you're trying to repair it ! Best we can do is $327 for a new cap ! Ouch !! The parts book shows the centre brush but in the text it just says "Marelli" meaning you're on your own ! Good luck ! |

I'm trying to find a carbon brush with spring that fits in the distributor cap of a BB512. The brush itself is in good shape however the spring is about ready to disintergrate. The brush measures 5mmX15mm; people stock the 308 brush which is 6X10 but it will not fit. I've tried Rutlands and FOA. FOA doesn't have anything. The guys at Rutlands were going to hunt in the back to see if they could up with something. Any of you Boxer guys ever run into this? Thanks, Drew Altemara |
