Low oil pressure? Replace the oil filter with a UFI or Baldwin. Are you using the Fram? They are known to collapse around the standpipe and cause low/no oil pressure. |

Is it a tapping noise or a heavier knock?? Is it coming from the top half or lower half of the engine. You can take a stethascope, or even a piece of vacum line (used in lieu of a stethascope) and try to isolate the area. If it is coming from the bottom end then...Ouch, do not want to get too far ahead of the game but low oil pressure and knock, generally equate either a rod bearing, or a mian bearing. The longer you run it the more damage it will do. Does it sound like hammer blows??? |

>>>Can I diagnose the problem myself? If so, where do i begin? Thanks in advance. << Get a mechanics stethoscope to track down, isolate and pin point the noise. And a good flashlight with new batteries.

Quite a few years ago I crushed a Fram oil filter by running the engine hard before letting the oil come up to temperature. This caused a low oil pressure reading. The inside of the filter was crushed and the filtering medium was completely detached from its base. A few weeks later the oil cooler began leaking. There were no strange noises, however. Mine is a 1987 328GTS. No problems since. |

I would definitely not drive the car. Have it towed. |

The Ferrari i own is a 87 Mondial Cabriolet 3.2. I have a loud knock/clicking from 2500 rpm on up. My oil pressure is reading about 40 psi where it should be around 80 right? I did an oil change two weeks ago using 5/30 synthetic. oil pressure was good until a few days ago. This prompted me to change the oil today using castrol 20/50. I also used a lucas oil treatment for extra lube ping/knock protection. The car seems seems to run ok but the noise is scary. Is this a chronic sign. What are the poosibilities. Could it be a valve spring, a shim. Should I risk driving the car to the nearest Ferrari Service in Vancouver B.C. which is 120 miles away? Can I diagnose the problem myself? If so, where do i begin? Thanks in advance.
