Thought I'd update this for future reference...

June 18th I went out to show the car to some friends. It had been sitting about 10 days since I last drove it (weather has been awful). I started it up and the Slow Down 5/8 light came on instantly. It flickered a bit on and off but then came on completely, shutting down the 5/8 side. I decided it was time to buy a new ECU. I replaced it last night and everything is working fine again.

I assume that the ECU had gotten moisture in it and it was too far gone to save with my little epoxy fix.

Just thought I'd tell you my experience the past two days.

Coming home from church last night cylinders 5/8 went out and I got a Slow Down 5/8 light. No warning, no blinking just straight on and cut out. I nursed it home. After letting it cool down for a bit and checking on some connections I went for another ride just to try to figure out what was wrong. About 10 minutes into the ride it came on again. I slowed to pull into a parking lot and it went off and the 5/8 bank kicked back on. So I drove it back home again and went ahead and parked it for the night.

Today I called Tom Jones of Sport Auto and he talked me through checking it out. He informed me that sometimes the backing cracks and that water can get in them and short them out. Well since my problem seemed intermittent I took a chance that it was just condensation and that the ECU was still ok. So for now I took some epoxy and sealed it back up. Put it back on and went for a good 75 mile drive around the neighborhood.

Result: So far so good. No Slow Down 5/8 light. The drive included some hard driving as well as some cruising.

Thanks to all the post here about the ECU problem and a lot of thanks to Tom (I didn't even know where the ECU was when I started). You guys saved me a lot of work (and money) today.

I may go ahead and purchase a new one because of the fact that I didn't get any blinking light, it went straight to full on. I'm thinking the ECU is damaged and not working 100% correctly. Any opinions?
