just to close this out in case someone else runs up against this in the future.... the problem was simply that the two leads connected to the compressor had corroded out due to water getting to them. maybe it was rain leaking onto them (?) maybe it was a prior owner washing the engine too aggressively. dunno. but all the components were a-okay - just needed a pair of new lead ends to get the corrosion out. doody! |

UPDATE well, the fuse is kosher, and i can hear the relay clicking away properly like a mofo, so it's probably not that. i'm assuming the air pump is the cylindrical device, on end, that says "FIAMM" that is located just rear of the two horns. the wiring is all nicely covered up in casing, but nothing seems disconnected. i'm not gonna start futzing with that - i'll let the pros deal with it. on a separate note, what ultra-genius came up with those pins to hold the fuse panel in place? that seems unnecessarily complicated! something wrong with a SCREW? :-) thanks again, guys. doody. |

doody Remote switches may refer to relays. If this is a 308 ..take the top off (2 screws)of the air pump and drop 2-3 drops of oil. Try your horn again. If this does not work... check you contacts on the air compressor. if OK. see if you can get at (air) horns squirt some oil into the trumpets then blow some sir into the air hose thats attached to them . try 35- 45 psi. If they tooot... try your horn again. If not you may have to replace them. Good luck axel |

Hi Mr. D Remote switches are relays. A relay is a switch that is closed by electric power rather than a hand. The relay also allows more power to flow to the controled device safely. MrC |

Doody If you can get to the horns, check to make sure there aren't any critters in them. My horns had some spiders that had gotten in there and made a nest. I cleaned them out and they work now. Oh yeah the other thing was that one of the wires wasn't connected to the air pump. You could also check that too. Good luck. |

my horn isn't working - very annoying! everything else appears a-okay. it audibly makes the contact on both buttons on each side of the airbag, but no blast of noise. i checked the user manual, and will take a look at the fuse to see if it's blown for some reason. however, and maybe this is a stupid question, the section on fuses talks about the "remote switches" as well. i know what fuses are, but what the heck are "remote switches"? tia, doody. |
