So I was looking in the WSM (yes I'm ridiculous enough to bring it with me to school) and sure enough I am missing the involatibility plug as far as I can tell. It's normally flush with the top of the hole or maybe even stick out a bit as a tee would I presume. I remember looking in this hole once and seeing a screw down about an inch (give or take) and thinking I bet this is the thing that is supposed to have the plug. What kind of head does the screw have, hex? |

That's what I figured it would be (installing a weber carb on a jeep does wonders for your understanding of vacuum). I have these so called Golf tees, I bet I can dig up a red one too... |

That hole, if left uncovered after an adjustment, is a direct vacuum leak. A golf tee also works just fine and they come in many colors. |

I've read in the WSM how this plug can affect running, Brian it seems you know a bit about it. We're talking about the hole just to the passenger side of the fuel distributor and driver's side of the airbox, on top of that area there in between them. Mine hasn't had a plug in the thing since I got it and reading that in the WSM and now seeing it here makes me wonder. I only realized it when I had everything apart as that is when I really started getting familiar with the ins and outs of the systems and not just oil changes, replacing sensors, etc. easy stuff. If I had realized it earlier I would've stuck my finger over it to see if it made a difference. Could you guys shed some light hear on me? |

Yes, it plugs into the hole for the fuel mixture adjustment. There should be a plug in the hole by law, we often use the rubber to fill the hole during adjustment then replace the solid plug. It will affect the running if the hole is open. |

After a drive one day I dusted off things under the hood and heard the dreaded "clink" of something hitting the floor. It was a brass colored metal wire, about 2" long with a rubber stopper at one end and was formed into a circle at the other. As I last touched the fuel distribution unit I suspected it came from near there. I bought a manual on the Bosch injection system but cannot find photo or mention of this part. It seems to "fit" into the adjustment screw hole between the fuel dist. unit and the air filter box. Can anyone help with where this thing belongs?
