I just removed the cats on my TR........NO problem with running.

I have read two Bosch service books, and BOTH authors stated that the fuel injection system has a range of operation, and that, adding things like free flow exhausts (read....removing cats), increasing intake volume (read.......K and N filters) all fall within this range. Hence, NO problem.

It is "wild" things like changing cams, that will throw the computer off.

Have had the Cats off my 355 for 6 months. The car runs fine, no engine lights and sounds great.

I have been told by a few engine builders that newer car exhaust systems are very important to the engine because of back pressure. They have told me the the back pressure in the engine helps to keep the piston rings sealing at their best, and can help reduce "ring flutter" at higher rpms. I would like futher info on this if anybody has ideas

Risk of what ? You are exposing yourself to risk on arrest, fines and car confiscation if some cowboy cop wanted to bring you up on emission system tampering charges.

You're exposing all of us to risk if you remove the catalytic converters.

The engine won't care. The engine management system will because it looks for clean exhaust via the rear lambda sensor on OBDII cars. The ECU won't care on an OBDI car though. The change in the US is '96 MY is OBDII.

Hi there. I've had problems with my Kidaspecial exhaust in my 355. Today I was told that I should replace the extreme sounding exhaust either back to original, or go for an aftermkt exhaust that leaves the cats in the car to protect the engine. I dislike the original sound of the earlier 355s, so can anyone offer advice on what I've been told- is it bolloks by a guy trying to sell me his exhaust or am I really exposing the car to extra risk by removing the cats? Also if anyone has advice on what brand to go for on early 355's I appreciate.
