Gary- TomD is right. Make sure Rob puts these with the descriptions in the Parts & Service section. I printed them out to have with me tomorrow. Thanks again. |

Gary- Wow, thanks for the photos!! Describing the process and photographing it really helps. I think this should be possible with the help from these pix. I really didn't want to pull the plenum. Thanks again and your engine and car look great! |

Here's some photos that I took during the process of replacing the hoses under the plenum on my 1983 308 QV. I was able to replace them -without- pulling the plenum off: <http://groups.msn.com/garyreed/308qvhosesreplaced.msnw> |

Cool- I'll try it. I'd rather not take the plenum off if it is not necessary. Thanks |

i just replaced the two coolant hoses under the plenum in my 328 without removing the plenum...kinda nasty getting it all down, but could do again in fairly short order...don't know how closely QV layout compares to 328, but FWIW, here's info on mine: * remove oil filter, shine light in from left end of engine for more visibility. * remove thermostat housing from engine and hose it connects to for a little more room on right side of engine. * loosen top of air filter housing for more room on right rear of engine. * remove/install hose clamps using combo of long screwdrivers, possible extension(mentioned in below posts), and possibly box end 7mm wrench(on my car, clamps use screwdriver or 7mm wrench). * probably have to slice/cut hoses to get 'em off. * big trick for me was to use thinner, more flexible hoses, particularly on the lower/shorter hose, so that i could bend it to get in on. Stouter hoses, which may last longer, didn't give me the flexibility to get it all going...is VERY cramped in there, a real b*tch. This could mean i'd need to change these out sooner than if i'd used a bulletproof hose, but i'm planning on doing a major service next year, so this oughta be fine for me. |

Thanks David- I'll check it out tonight. Working with these cars is almost as fun as driving them... almost. |

Warm-up regulator is on the right side of engine, has fuel lines coming into and out of it, and is bolted down. I think it is on the top of the right side (my car is not here for me to check). Removal (no need to diconnect fuel lines) gives you better access to the coolant hoses on top of the block. |

David- I have a 1/4" flexible extension and tried that for a couple minutes with no luck. Now that I know it works- I will try again. Where is the warm-up regulator? Bill- thanks. I'm still going to Montreal but without the 308- this coolant leak kind of scares me for a 5 hour ride each way. The acura is more comfortable and can carry more stuff (beer). As you can tell, I'm trying to prove to myself that this is the right decision. Did you still want to try and hook up? Are you already meeting some f-chat folks somewhere? I will also be going to Lime Rock next month. I'm driving over with the Boston Sports Car guys. It's always nice to travel in a caravan of ferrari mechanics. Too bad they can't follow me to Montreal. |

John--be careful in removing the hoses from the connector under the plenum as well , as they sometimes crack. I believe that the hose going from the expansion tank to the connector under the plenum is smaller than 5/8--at least it is on a US spec model. |

A very useful too is a 1/4" flexible extension. It will usually be about 9 or 10" long and cost your $12 or so. Very helpful in tightening those clamps under the plenum. Worked for me... Another Chat member Gary Reed, replaced his hoses w/o removing the plenum, by using this extension. He did have to remove the FI warm up regulator though. Which is no big deal. |

I have an 84 Euro QV with coolant leaks from the hoses under the plenum. I can reach some but seemingly not all. I tightened what I can but it still is leaking a bit from the clamps I can't reach. Is it possible to reach these clamps with a collection of u-joints, extensions, etc or is it absolutely necessary to remove the plenum? If so- I've read here that it's not too painful- just watch for spacers falling down a throat. Any advice of the removal process would be great. Are there any tricks to getting to the nuts and/or removing all the connectors from the plenum? I will replace the hoses at the same time if I'm removing the intake. They are 1-1/2" and 5/8" (i.d.) correct? Green Stripe? |
