If there has been a lot of rain and associated humidity, I would also check connections for thermocouples, temperature sensors on top of engine and other ignition connections. In my 512TR I had similar experience, but it was associated with slightly rough idle once warmed up. In my case the connection with the temperature sensor had condensation or some other conection issue which caused the car temperature sensor not to register increased temperature on warm up and engine management system thought engine was still cold which led to extra fuel igniting in exhaust setting off slow down light. Although since you did not indicate an idle issue and you stated car was not even hot, it sounds like you may have another issue. |

Steve M. is right on. In the absence of a mis-firing bank of cylinders, the cat will not overheat. Look down the aft end of the car, and you will see two wire-braided cables coming off of the cats. Follow these to the plate above the right rear wheel well. Remove the plate (3 or 4 10mm nuts), and you will see the ECU sending units. Two wires to each unit. Swap the units (swap the wires) and check to see which light comes on the dash. Then follow Steve M.'s instructions. Jim S. |

Bruce -- If you've confirmed it's a false situation (i.e., the cat/exhaust/thermocouple is not near-glowing red hot), swap the thermocouple electrical inputs to the warning light ECUs (it's helpful to label everything with some "1/6" and "7/12" tags before unplugging anything to not confuse things): 1. if the 7/12 dash light still comes on erroneously, it's probably a bad 7/12 ECU. 2. if the 1/6 warning light now comes on erroneously, you'll have to dig deeper. Just a suggestion for a first (reasonably simple IMO) test... |

John Bruce has special dispensation for use of the Caps key Bruce on the 355's this problem would show when the Cat ECU got moisture into it, mainly caused by a crack in the sealant

Sounds like a stuck caps-lock key to me. Try some WD-40? |
