www.teamvoodoo.com is the place Jim is trying to remember.

I also have their knob and Paul's pedals - including the dead pedal, that really finished off the look.

Great products and great people to deal with.

If you don't have a 17mm, try a crescent wrench. Changing mine took all of 2 minutes. I bought mine from the place Mike suggested, but can't remember the name of it. Makes Miata parts I think. Was about $40 and I love it.

The nut just below the knob is 17mm. Unless it's missing, you do NOT need to take the gate off nor hold the shift stalk. Just put a 17mm open end wrench on the nut to hold it, then rotate the shift ball counterclockwise to unscrew.

I also changed the shift-gate and the knob with one supplied by Paul Hill and i concur the shift is a lot easier and the knob justs twists of after you have slackened the lock nut, took about 10 mins.for the total job.

I thought I remembered an earlier post which suggested taking the gate off which allows you to also get a wrench on the bottom of the shifter stalk if you are concerned about spinning the stalk.

Augustine,

I believe there is a lock nut under the gear knob - slacken this off first of all, and the gear knob should unscrew.

Stephen - Thanks for the recommendation :-)

It should be threaded and just screw on and off.

I replace my knob and gate with ones from Hill,s (FerrariChat sponsor). Also did the pedals. To say I am pleased with the results is to put it mildly. Looks GREAT and the car shifts MUCH better. Highly recommended.

This may seem like a stupid question, and I searched the archives to try and avoid scolding from the "we went over this a million times before" club, but here it goes. The gear knob in my 328 has become quite faded and I have a new factory replacement. It does not apear to be a twist on/twist off job. I don't want to break anything, so any advise on replacing this item would be appreciated. Thanks.
