In 1999 I purchased a Stebro system (cat back system) for my 88M6. It is still sounding great and was 1/2 the cost of an orginal BMW system. On the down side, Stebro had to send me 3 units until we got one to fit properly ... "there is always a trade off". Stebro use to make exhaust systems back in the 60s to 70s, but they were thin steel back then. Sounded great, lasted 2 winters and fell appart. The name was purchase by its current owner a number of years ago.. and changed the product to 12 guage 409 to Stainless steel. Still have their address on file .... (FYI ... in 1999 a 308 Rear exhaust was $1225.00 (US$) Stebro PSD LTD. 1545 River Rd, Manotick,Ontario Canada. K4M 1B4. 1-613-692-4984 or 888-8STEBRO email [email protected] regards axel |

I have the stebro on my GT4. Sounds Great, 1/2 the price. I'd like to meet up with Rob Garven one day, since his GT4 has the tubi, and compare the two exhausts. Dom |

OK, the main difference is cosmetic AND name recognition. Yes, Tubi is more well known and looks prettier, but Stebro has similar performance and sound for about half the price. Exhaust system cosmetics on some cars is certainly an issue if the exhaust shows. If I had a 360 or even a 308 Euro, I'd go Tubi. On my US 308QV, it does not matter since all you can see of it is the tips anyway. As far as resale, a "performance exhaust" versus an actual Tubi probably won't make any dollar difference when reselling, in my opinion. Of course, for those that need "bragging rights", or have an exhaust system that is visible, O'd say get a Tubi.

Let's face it, there is a bit more to it than that, Mike. Tubi has the reputation, sound AND cosmetics to back up their higher price. Now the performance of the two products may be similar, but come "bragging rights" or resale, Tubi gets the nod everytime... :-) If you just want a durable replacement exhaust, I'm sure the Stebro is fine. |

The main difference is cosmetic since the Tubi is externally highly polished, the Stebro is not except at the tips. They're both made of the same stainless steel, but that extra labor results in the extra cost for the Tubi. For my 308, the exhaust doesn't show except at the tips.

I am looking to buy either a TUBI or Stebro exhaust to replace the stock muffler on my 355. I would like to know the difference between the two because the Stebro is much less $$ than the TUBI. Also, where can I buy them at a discount?? Thanks, Scott |
