What I recently had done to my 348 was have the system power flushed and filled with a machine that forces out the old fluid, runs a cleaning solution through the system and then refills it with the proper ratio of fluid. It only cost around $100.00 for the procedure including new fluid. It's a really neat machine that most radiator shops now have.

Just fill a couple of buckets with water and let sit for a few days: voila, distilled water. Well, almost !

I don't think you want to use the water from your dehumidifier. If yours is like most, the room air blows across the coil which becomes dusty and contaminated and really just condensed room qualiy air.

Additional (related) question :

I've heard that you should only use distilled water (with antifreeze of course) when refilling. However, round where I live, distilled water is about 1 GBP per litre !

Now, my dehumidifier kicks out litres of pure water every day ...... can I use the output from the dehumidifier in the cooling system ? Isn't it just pure, clean water ?

Just a thought :-)

Yes Bret we know ! First remove thermostat so you can flush out efficiently on a cold engine. Ten minute job. Then run engine with a radiator chemical/ abrasive/flush compound available from most auto stores. This will disolve and remove any gummed in gunk and particles. Let cool down, right down. First disconnect the heater hose from the lower radiator hose and start flushing from the hose. Then disconnect the upper radiator hose and go to the header tank and pressure flush from there. You could also then flush from the heater hose connection on the head outlet (with the top r/hose disconnected. That should get all the crap out. Thats how Dom and I flushed out my GTB. Then of course you throw out that old thermostat and install a new one ! You may even find the heater hoses are rotted out like on most 308's and causes the radiators to block up with hose particles. Of course you know who the expert on heater hoses is.

I have an 85 308GTSqv:

How do you guys flush the coolant system? Do you have to take out the radiator? How do you prevent from spilling a lot of coolant?

My car is due to have it flushed and I think while it's out I might also check the system over because a couple 90+ days this summer my car would run up to like 230 if I sat in traffic for a long time and then only come down to 200 when moving. Interesting, sounds like somethings fishy. The fans are working right so hmmm.
