I cleared the brake rotor no problem when I removed my pass. tank to change the a/c lines.

Andrew:
I have heard that you also have to remove the brake rotor too. Like Peter said--be careful with the fuel.

Before removing the old tank, drive the car until the low level warning light is on, go back home, siphon out the rest, jack up the car and drain whatever maybe left in the cross-over pipe that runs between the two tanks.

Remove the passenger's side wheel and fiberglass wheel well and unbolt the tank-retaining strap, located on the frame of the car, underneath the tank.

You'll probably have difficulty removing the old cross-over pipe hose(s) and might need to cut it(them) off... Good excuse to renew! On my car, the hoses were 1 3/8" I.D.

There may be a few items that I might have missed that could be in your way. Otherwise, its a straight-forward operation...

I can't tell you differences of GTB/S tanks, I have no experience with them.

Just becareful when draining the tanks. I spilled several litres worth of gas and almost set the house on fire. Not a good thing to do!

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how hard is it to replace passengers side gas tank on a 1984 308? Does it require any special tools? Do I have to remove the engine? I do not have access to a lift so I can only work from the top of the car. My skill level is changing brakes and radiators. I cannot tackle any really tough projects. Is replacing the fuel tank out of my league? Finally, Is all 308 gas tanks identical. I am purchasing a used one and I want to make sure all years are identical. Thanks for your your time.
Andy
