Good points David. I didn't mean to imply that there is anything wrong with the Hellas - I haven't actually used them, but they are certainly a well respected brand. (btw, there are flat face Cibies too - don't know how they compare to the others though). Daniel Stern has pretty good prices on a variety of euro lighting and has some tech articles on his site that come in handy. http://lighting.mbz.org/ (I got my last set of Cibie on ebay so it's a good idea to keep an eye on that too. You can find new old stock Carellos as well which some of the late 60s owners would like for that period look) |

Rich, I have used both Cibie and Hella, and find them very close in performance, the biggest difference is to be sure and get the E-code (euro) lights, as Hello come both in DOT (USA) compliant and E-code. I believe Cibie only come in E-code. Hellas are more readily available, and a bit cheaper as well. I also find the flat faces on them make it much easier to install Stoneguard. The Cibie has a more "traditional" or period look to them though. |

For 5.75" lights, I think most find the Cibie to be the best beam pattern. I've had Carellos on some Fiats as well but the Cibies I have now are great. If the low beam circuit doesn't use a relay on the mondial, you should install one if changing to euro-code halogen lights because halogen lights drop off massively if full voltage isn't getting to them. 100% at 13.5v drops to 65% at 12v (it gets worse from there!). |

If this is for the standard 5.75" lights I would recommend upgrading to the Hella Euro code lights. These make a huge difference. go to www.susquehanna.com/susq Click on Hella, then click on Headlamps You want the hi/low beam H4 versions. I recommend the 50% or 100% xenon bulb upgrade too. These put more light out, with out the added current draw of high wattage bulbs, and don't have the annoying blue cast either, they are actually a bit whiter than standard halogen. |
